Problems with our second dog

Problems with our second dog

We have a 3 yr. old lab named Baxter who was a very tough puppy, to say the least! But once he hit 3 he calmed down quite a bit. With the exception of his barking, which we have almost cured 100% by using a muzzle. So, once he calmed down a little we must have forgotten what it was like to have so much going on in the house that we decided to adopt a second dog! Lexi is a Katrina rescue and was very sick when we got her. She is a great dog and listens very well. She is a bit aggressive with her affection but that's ok, we are a loving family! Anyway, recently she just won't stop bothering Baxter, constantly trying to wrestle with him and entice him with bones, toys or whatever she's into at the moment. We have tried squirting her with a water bottle and telling her to 'stop' when she does these things but that only works temporarily. Has anyone else had issues like this? Or does anyone have any advice as to how to stop this behavior? Please! We are getting married in October and would really like not to have this added stress right now! TIA!

If it's anything like cats, you're going to have to step back and let the two of them work it out. Just make sure they both have a 'safe haven' to retreat to when they want to (perhaps a room one can go in and you shut the door when they don't want to be bothered).

You should try a behaviorist if that doesn't work. But, the more you meddle without being sure what will work, you risk making it worse.
