I am going to the Town of Oyster Bay Clerk's office tomorrow and need to know the following:
1) What forms of ID should we bring? 2) How much does it cost and do we need to pay by Money Order only?
Anything else I should know?
THANKS LADIES!

Re: Procedure for getting a Marriage License?
i was just there on Friday!
some form of photo ID (drivers license or passport) and some sort of document that legally states your date of brith (birth certificate, baptismal record, etc)
it's $40 and we paid ours in cash

Re: Procedure for getting a Marriage License?
Our drivers license states our age - is that sufficient? Why do we need a Birth Certificate?

i think birth certificate if for verification of your parents, i think you need to know their city/state of birth too.

Re: Procedure for getting a Marriage License?
unfortunately, it has to be 2 separate documents...
One of the following age-related documents: 1. Birth Certificate 2. Baptismal record 3. Naturalization record 4. Census record
and
One of the following identity-related documents:
1. Driver's license 2. Passport 3. Employment picture ID 4. Immigration record

Re: Procedure for getting a Marriage License?
Ok - My Fiance is from Harrisburg, PA - can we use a copy of his birth certificate that his parents could fax us?

Re: Procedure for getting a Marriage License?
I don't think they will accept a copy, but you should try calling the office before you go. If not, have his parents fed ex the birth certificate to you.
how far in advance do they recommend obtaining a license?

Re: Procedure for getting a Marriage License?
it's good for 60 days, but not until 24 hours afterwads...so on the safe side, i'd get it no later than like 3 days before....most wait until they are within a month, we'll probably do the same.

Re: Procedure for getting a Marriage License?
It is good for 60 days. My church adviced us to get it 30 days in advance, that way you have it and it's one less thing to worry about. And you then have 30 days to have it processed. Also, they do need a certified copy of the birth certificate. That means it has to have a raised seal on it, the original is the best. They need this to verify your place of birth, parents info, etc.

Re: Procedure for getting a Marriage License?
If you can't get an original birth certificate, go to a town hall that doesn't require a birth certificate. NYC only requires 1 form of photo id (license or passport).
