program dilemma

ok............

I would like to make a program that has everything timelined so people know what to expect.

My dear friend who is alos coordinating my wedding thinks a timeline is pushy. Pease, I need your honest opinions on this!

Not that there won't be room for improvising.

I would like to do something as follows:

beginning progrom introducing bridal party and parents, readers, officiant etc

cocktail hour

reception

1:45pm BP intro
1:55 Mr. & Mrs. Intro

first dance

toasts

mother/son dance

bok toss

garter toss

cut the cake

enjoy your meal

busta move

cake, yum yum

so long, farewell, we hate to see you go............

not trying to offend any but hear me out

your program pretty much sounds like it follows the typical flow of a wedding reception. Since most of your guests have probably been to weddings before I don't know if the program is really necessary. . .and i guess I would agree that it could come off as pushy -

it's the reception - people generally don't want to have to follow a written schedule but just have fun and go with the flow of the party. .

JMO though and again please don't take offense

I appreciate your opinion, and I am flattered you replied.

My dilemma too is that a mjority of people attending this event are coming from Kansas, Oklahoma and Iowa and have never attended a wedding of this kind before. Thinsg are done differently.........as far as other people yeah they might know.........

Re: program dilemma

is the program for guests or vendors?

if its for guests, i dont think you need b/c its sort of what everyone expects from a wedding.

if its for your vendors (music, catering, photo and video) i think its a great idea so that they are all on the same page and ready.

I think its GREAT that you have people coming from other places that haven't been to a tri state area wedding. and yes - they are MUCH different. HOWEVER, i have to agree that you probably don't need a program. I've been to weddings out in areas like iowa and yes even Kentucky. as a guest i think its GREAT to be at a wedding where there are things happening differently than what i'm used too. makes it very memorable and exciting. at the end of the day, the core elements are the same - and there really isn't instructions needed for the guests. trust me, they'll figure it out and enjoy the discovery process.

Re: program dilemma

You do not need a timeline for the reception, regardless of whether your guests have experience being at wedding or not. The ceremony can have a timeline (without actual times but that's JMO) but the reception is a PARTY!!! It's supposed to be fun...they'll see/experience the first dance, bok toss, cake cutting, etc as it happens. Just let them have fun and enjoy your party without bogging them down with details they don't need. They'll get it.

Re: program dilemma

Maybe put the general cremony program info and the CH begin and Reception begin, but IMO, I wouldnt put the rest of the timeline.

The DJ/|Band and Maitre'd will folow the general reception schedule and announce anything that need to be announce (dinner being served, etc).

If you want , maybe put menus on the tables so they know about the courses and dinner choices.

JMO
