Are they really necessary, or is this something my budget can easily cut out? Same question with menus - can I cut that out if the RH provides them?

Re: Programs?
RH should provide menus I know my RH does and it's one less thing for you to do. Also you don't have to have a program (it's not wedding mandated lol). The good thing about your wedding is you make the shots!

Re: Programs?
If the RH provides the menus I wouldn't make other different ones.
I think with programs you can get away with not making one for every person because not everyone takes one.

Re: Programs?
You can DIY programs. Just buy some pretty paper from Michael's or Staples. That's probably what I will do!
My RH provides menus! I will NOT be spending any extra on that!

Re: Programs?
we are DIY both of these to save money, but check with your RH first and see if they provide menus. If they do, than you can scratch that off your list. As far as the programs, they are nie to have so your guest can follow along and know where they are at in the ceremony. It's also where they get to see who is in the bridal and what their names are. But, if you are getting low in the budget, I'd say cut them.

Re: Programs?
You totally dont NEED either..especially the menus. Programs are nice..but if they're not in your budget, I would cut them out or DIY! I DIY'd mine. I bought a pack from Michaels (with a 40% coupon) and made about 40 of them. They were a pain to put together (I chose kind of a complicated design), but in the end they were totally cute and well worth the $9 I spent on them.
HTH!

Re: Programs?
We didn't have any programs and it was fine ... nobody missed it.
For menu's, we were originally not going to have them but with 5 entrees, we didn't want people to be confused. We DIYed our menus and ordered them from vistaprint (they were $20 for 100 of them .... i used the Rack Cards and they came out great!). Menu's aren't necessary either, though.
PS: my RH did not provide a menu ... some do though. If yours does, i wouldn't make my own.

Re: Programs?
If you like their menus, then use theirs. And when it comes to programs, I doubt you need them. I've actually never been to a wedding with programs.

Re: Programs?
I bought paper at Michaels with 40% off and got 100 for $12. I am doing programs only since we're interfaith I thought it would be nice for each other's family/guests to learn a little about the backgrounds. RH is doing menus

I'm not doing programs, IMHO they are a waste

Re: Programs?
My mother-in-law is doing the programs. I really do not care about it to be honest.

Re: Programs?
i printed out my own menus even though the reception hall provides them to fit within my theme and now requiring more money to be spent
same things with programs- i am making my own and then will either print them out on slightly thicker paper than normal copy paper or have them printed at staples, etc.
they aren't necessary but easy DIY projects... let me know if you need templates

If your RH provides menus I would use theirs! Programs aren't necessary but IMO a nice touch ONLY if you have the $$....
