Proposals?

Proposals?

How did everyone's FH propose? My poor FH has been harrassed for a few months by our parents who reeeally wanted us to get engaged (we were only together for 1 year but friends for a long time prior). So he took the opportunity when we went to Bermuda last April. The first night there we spent the afternoon by the pool (When we were getting dressed to go he asked me if he should wear his coat...I said...'to the pool'?? and laughed at him. Turns out he had the ring in there and was afraid to leave it in the room). Then went out for a delicious Italian dinner. After dinner he suggested we go take a walk on the beach. After we walked for a bit we paused to just take it in and that's when he got on one knee and proposed. We went back to the room a short while later and he had champagne, choc strawberries and rose pedals on the bed (the hotel did it while we were out). I def love the way he did it!

Re: Proposals?

This is copied and pasted from an old post of mine -

FH and I have been serious for a few years. We were talking marriage all last year, and in November he and I went to various stores to look at rings, just on a whim.

Of course, this led to a phone call from me to my best friend making sure that she knew my ring size I knew he'd ask her for help, since my parents and sister live out of state. My sister would have been his first choice to help with ring shopping, but logisitcally that wasn't going to happen.

I had no clue that they were secretly getting together and he was custom designing my ring. This was going on for a month before Christmas. FH and I were going to FLorida to spend Christmas with my family.

One of the Christmas gifts from my parents to FH and I was a trip to Key West. We had to get up EARLY the day we were heading there, and while I was in the shower, he asked my parents permission. My dad - suspecting this would happen - had a double-headed coin made at a novelty kiosk and told FH that he'd have to flip a coin for his answer. If it was heads, then he could ask me to marry him.

So, we're in Key West at a butterfly and nature conservatory - TOTALLY up my alley, since I'm a huge nature crunchy person - and my mom and I were walking along this path, not noticing that FH and my dad had gone way ahead of us. Then my sister asks to borrow my camera and I hand it over to her. My mom and I kept walking, and then I turn a little corner and THERE HE WAS, at the edge of a little bridge, on bended knee, ring in hand. He just looked at me like 'well?' and I was like 'you need to ask me the question!!!' Which of course he did.

My sister actually took pics and video of the proposal (awesome!!!) and I have pics in my album, if anyone wants to check them out.

We had gone ice skating at Wollman rink in Central Park and at the time they ask everyone to clear the ice so they can clean it, he directed me to a coned off circle in the middle of the rink. The song All my life by K-Ci and Jo-JO started playing. He got down on one knee (pretty difficult in ice skates) and popped the question. His friend who went with us videotaped it.

Re: Proposals?

I love telling mine:

During an intense game of Rock Band, Michael asked when we were exchanging Christmas gifts and told me mine was under the tree. It was a beautiful hand-crafted Disney centerpiece with Mickey Mouse and Pluto riding a sleigh. Now, a little backstory. We had recently moved into our new house, and we were using a spare bedroom for storage. A friend of ours had spent the night the day before, so while I was at work, Michael cleared out the bedroom so we could accomodate our friend. Little did he know, his Christmas gift was in a box in that bedroom's closet. When I went to get Michael's gift out of the closet, I noticed he had piled all of boxes that were being stored in the bedroom on top of the box with his gift in the closet!. I asked him to help me move the boxes, and as he put one of the boxes down, it had a ring box on it. I stopped in my tracks, saw the box, and said 'What's that???' Michael told me it was nothing. I responded with 'No seriously, what is it.' He told me to open it myself and find out.

I opened it and immediately said 'Are you serious???' Michael said no and took it back. He took the ring out of the box, and began to put it on my finger, but I noticed he was putting it on my right hand! I quickly corrected him, and after he put the ring on the correct finger, I started hugging and kissing him. It was then that he suddenly said 'So you haven't answered me.' My response was 'You haven't asked me anything.' He looked me dead in the eye and said....'So, you wanna?'

March 17, 2008

FH stayed up the entire night before because he was so nervous about proposing. He replaced my everyday ring with my engagement ring & I was supposed to find it when I woke up for school that morning. However, I decided not to go to school that day since I wasn't feeling well. At around 11AM, FH asked me if I felt well enough to go to the store. So we went to the store.

Strangely enough, I threw on sweat pants & a tee shirt & no jewelry (for the first time in 8 years). So off to the store we went. When we got back home I unpacked the groceries & joined FH sitting on the couch. He said, “I have a surprise for you.” I said, “Why?” knowing our anniversary was 3 days away. So he told me to go look on my desk. I didn’t even notice it. Then I picked it up, put it on, and couldn’t believe it. Took it off for him to put on & then I said yes.

It was a complete surprise to me & everyone we know. The only person who knew he was going to propose was his mom.

Re: Proposals?

His proposal was romantic, though...

First of all, we live up in WP and I hate traveling to the city for a night out. We just always have to find a way back, etc etc... He knows this.....

So his brother's fiance texts me one night and asked if we'd want to go ice skating in the city with them on Thursday, and then we'd go and grab dinner later... Ok, seemed kind of low-key so I was very excited and had been talking about going ice skating for a little while now anyway... (FH had only been once, and his bro and FW had never ever been, so it was going to be a riot!) I was all excited and fbil's fw and I kept texting back and forth about it!!!

So Thursday comes and she texts me that they have to work late and might not be able to make it ice skating but they would still try and meet us for dinner. I kind of thought, very quickly, 'hmm, is this fishy??' but she seemed so annoyed at her boss that I figured not... (By the way, we've been together 5.5 years at this point, so I had kind of given up on getting my hopes up!!)

BUT as I was getting ready, I did get dressed nicely and cut my fingernails (they needed it anyway....) Really trying not to get my hopes up....

So we're driving down (I also hate the train) and of course got stuck in traffic, and are now arguing in the car about all this... I told him let's just skip ice skating and meet them for dinner... So funny, but his response to that was 'No. I'm not going to be the kind of dad who takes his kids ice skating and can't skate!!!'

Then we get to Bryant Park and are on line. A couple comes and stands behind us and it's her birthday and she didn't know they were going ice skating -- it was a surprise... My first thought (which I didn't say out loud) was, 'oh, maybe they'll get engaged tonight!!!'

Anyway, so we're skating around the rink, very slowly bc he's new at this and then he skates away... So I say 'where are you going?' He says, I can't stop. So i tell him to go and bump into the wall. I figure he's fine bc he wasn't falling or anything, so I looked the other way. Then I turn around to tell him something about some other creepy who was on line with us and he's down on one knee (in his skates) with the ring out and he says 'will you marry me?'

I didn't believe it... I said, 'WHAT?!! Shut the Fkuc Up!!' Very sweet, right?? My mom still won't tell the exact story bc she's embarrassed about that part!!

Then we went down the street to Simply Pasta where teh couple behind us complimented my ring!! And he had a dozen red roses sent to our table!!!

Re: Proposals?

FH and I have been together 5 years and the only reason he didn't propose sooner was bc of circumstance- money, jobs etc.

so i knew the the proposal was coming soon bc everything had fallen into place- mostly fh's finances...

i knew that fh would not be able to do anything crazy or different bc i would know right away if he took me somewhere nice or out of the ordinary...

we got engaged nov 21...FH decided he wanted to eat at our fave place in the city(also our first date spot), Sushi Samba before he had to go on a liquid diet for a medical procedure....so i didnt think anything of it

we were over an hour late for our reservation at a popular nyc restaraunt on sat night...

we walked rightttt in to a table with a view (ummm hello clue #1)

thennn i notice a guy walking around with a video camera, not to mention OUR video camera( ding ding ding clue #2) soooo did not put 2 & 2 together

FH claimed his stomach hurt so he went to the bathroom about 3 times that night (clue #3)

so FH had the restaurant shut off all the music so i could hear him propose..got down on his knee like a gentleman and proposed...video taped it all..had 15 long stem roses waiting for me(15 for the day we met)

obviously I said yes! or at least i think i did...i was crying my eyes out and i think mostly just shook my head yes lol

sorry its so long!!
