PSA: Get EVERYTHING in writing

PSA: Get EVERYTHING in writing

I'm watching 'who's wedding is it anyway' on the style network and just saw a very upset bride that had her wedding reception hall back out of her wedding two weeks prior to the big day because they double booked!

She only got a verbal agreement and handshake when she booked - not a good decision.

Moral of the story: Get everything in writing!

WOW! I've never heard of anyone not signing an actual contract for their reception hall! Was it something simple like a park or something?

I don't know. They didn't really go into it. From what was actually said, it was a normal hall in NJ. They also insisted on keeping the deposit! I feel really bad for her. Her wedding coordinator did manage to find her another venue and surprised her with a gorgeous cake!

Re: PSA: Get EVERYTHING in writing

Yes, you should get everything in writing--a lot of vendors 'throw things in' and you should at least send a follow-up email to confirm so you have that as backup.

But having your entire hall as a handshake? That's just stupid. I think you should sign a contract even with a family member if you're having the reception/wedding at his or her house. Just to protect you later if there's arguments about damages. (Why I would never do such a thing.)

But, wow. What a stupid couple. Was this a family friend or relative? Otherwise, why would anyone do such a thing?

Even at the park we are getting married at, we had to fill out an application and wait for weeks until we got the permit to use it...

This is obviously a horrible situation that happened to a bride. I sincerely feel bad for her and only posted this to warn the girls on this site to get everything in writing.

Like I said, this was on a TV SHOW and if you want further information, I suggest you try to catch that show whenever it's on. To go an call someone an 'idiot' and 'stupid' is taking it too far, in my opinion. I'm sure you have made a decision or two regarding this wedding that wasn't the smartest and I don't think that anyone called you 'stupid' for it. If they did - I feel bad for you. Compassion is all this bride needs, not ridicule.

Oh wow I feel so bad for her but she should have had it all in writing that the wedding was going to happen. At least type something up and have it reviewed by a lawyer and have them sign it.

What would you call her, then? Overly trusting? Immature? Inexperienced? I guess you could say that. Personally, I think she was extremely stupid, and if she didn't want to open herself up to criticism, then she shouldn't have gone on television.
