Hi, Anyone travel to PR in the past two years and what did you think of it? Good Honeymoon spot or no? TIA

Re: Puerto Rico-Opinions?
I am biased because I am Puerto Rican born and raised...I do think it's a great HM spot. Definitely recommend Fajardo area for hotels (Wyndham's El Conquistador is beautiful) because the beaches are awesome and you're away from the hussle and bussle of San Juan. I only like San JUan for day trips to El Morro (the fort in Old San Juan), the cobblestone streets and the pubs/clubs. A trip to the Bacardi distillery is also really cool (free shots!), El Yunque (the largest Caribbean Rain Forest) is a must as is a trip to La Bahia Fosforecente (the Luminous/Phosphorecent Bay) where a midnight dip will have your body shining for a few minutes...I can go on and on! Feel free to FM for specific details.
If you have the cash (and you need lots!) I am dying to go to the Paradisus Puerto Rico, it's an all-inclusive hotel that's part of The Leading Hotels of the World and is just out of this world...
Sorry I wrote so long...love my PR!

No...we did not really like it. We liked the hotel (Ritz Carlton), but not the island.

Re: Puerto Rico-Opinions?
My Future Mother-in-Law lives in Puerto Rico, so FH and I try to get there at least once a year. I like it there, there's a great town called Candado (sp?). There's a huge Marriott there; there's clubs and a casino. We've also done the Old San Juan tour and enjoyed it.

I love it.....been there soo many times and I also have family there as well.....El Conquistador is beautiful--its a little more private than on the Isla Verde strip if you're looking for more seclusion--

Re: Puerto Rico-Opinions?
We went there and stayed at the Caribe Hilton and we also stopped there on a cruise once. I think the best things about the island are the Bio Bay luminescence kayak tour in Vieques, visiting El Morro, and walking around Old San Juan at night.
I wouldn't go back. Everyone we met was wonderful - they have a beautiful culture - but it is very Americanized (duh, they're part of the U.S.) and the island is not tropical at all. (We didn't actually visit the rainforest there, but I hear it is beautiful!)

Re: Puerto Rico-Opinions?
DH and I went a few years ago and stayed at the Wyndham EL San Juan Hotel and Casino. We loved it. His family used to have a time share when he was young.
We didn't leave the grounds to much, just to walk up the block to the grocery store.
But the hotel was great! Good resturants, they have a club, casino.
When you sit in your lounge chair, either by the pool or on the beach, you can put up a flag on the back of your chair and the waiter brings you drinks
We had a great time

I agree with the above about that part of the island not being tropical...that is why I would NEVER recommend staying in San Juan (not even the Ritz). FOr a HM, you need to go off the beaten path and stay in Fajardo, Las Croabas, etc. The western part of the island (away from San JUan) is where the beauty lies, everything else is too touristey.

Re: Puerto Rico-Opinions?
My DH is half PR and he lived there when he was just a baby...I've always heard so many wonderful things about PR so when we took our cruise last year we stayed an extra day there. It was sooo pretty and I loved Old San Juan. So much shopping and sightseeing to do. It was too beautiful for words.

FH and I are doing a Royal Caribbean Cruise to the Southern Caribbean. Since we have been to Miami and Florida too many times, and never to PR, we decided to go there. So we booked the Paradisus in Puerto Rico (Ocean View Room with balcony) for a week and then we leave for another week in the cruise to the Southern Caribbean (room with a balcony). I've heard great things about the Paradisus. Plus we also liked the fact that it is a new hotel and it is all inclusive. One of my friends just came back from there and loved it. We thought by combining these two things, we got a lot more for our money plus we wanted to relax. We left Hawaii for our first year anniversary instead. I will post some pictures for you of the hotel. It is one of the highlights of my honeymoon that I can't wait.
Oh my God! It looks great....thank you soooooooooo much for all the input and pics...dont know what I would do without this board....

Re: Puerto Rico-Opinions?
We went to PR for the second half of our honeymoon and stayed at El Conquistador. We LOVED it and would definitely go back! The resort is amazing, you don't ever have to leave it if you don't want to. There are so many restaurants and activities, a spa, golf course, private beach etc. It was fantastic. We also visited El Yunque and went shopping in Old San Juan. I definitely recommend it.

Re: Puerto Rico-Opinions?
my fiance and I vacationed there for a week in Rincon (west side with great surfing beaches-FH is an avid surfer). We were there in Dec. 03. It was oaky; I didn't love it and if I never went back, that would be okay but if we did go back, tha would be okay too. We stayed at the Rincon Beach Resort and it is a beautiful place-new and accomodating. I would recommend the place. I am just not a huge fan of Puert Rico but my experience was alos limited to Rincon, which is considered to be a nice part f PR. I have to say that the best part of the experience for me was snorkeling near the big rock (I cannot remember the name). If you're in Rincon on a beach (Maria's Beach for instance) you can see a rock in the distance and that is a poular place to go snorkeling and scuba diving. You take a boat out there and it's beautiful-such fun snorkeling.
