When you pump do you put both breasts milk into one bottle or do you do separate bottles? I started pumping at the beginning of each feeding session to help Kiera with the flow of my milk. I thought I should freeze the milk so that I have a reserve built up. But do I combine breasts or do them separate? Thanks.

Re: Pumping question
It is fine to put both together into one bottle. That is what I do, as those breast milk bags are very expensive and then you have more milk when yo defrost it. Good luck!

IMHO I would freeze in smaller increments. You do not want to defrost and then have to throw away all the extra. I used to freeze in 2oz a pop. I hated throwing away any of that liquid gold

Re: Pumping question
The only time you have to wait to combine milk is when you have fresh pumped milk and want to add it to an already chilled bottle. Just chill the fresh milk and then you can combine.
I would also suggest freezing in small increments. Once you frost it, you have to use it with in a short period of time...you definitely don't want to have to throw away any milk.
I did some in 2 oz and some in 4 oz.

Re: Pumping question
I would double pump all the time and take both bottles and combine into one freezer bag (Gerber bags I like) and freeze. I also froze in different increments, like 2 oz (which I now use to make his cereal), 3 oz (I use two of them if he needs a full bottle for feeding) and 4 oz (a bottle size at times).

It's hard to say, every baby is so different. Sadly, even though it wasn't that long ago...I forgot already. I think around 2-4 ounces. We would only put an two ounces in at time and just go from there.

Re: Pumping question
You can combine milk from both breasts. I freezed in 3oz until Molly was 6 months old. After that I freezed in 4-5oz since she would drink that much at a sitting.
If you freeze the milk in a deep freeze or stand alone freezer it can last more than 6 months- some sources say up to 1 year. If you use the top of your frig (freezer area) it will last for 3 months. When you take milk out of the freezer to defrost in the frig overnight put the bag of breastmilk into a ziplock bag because I have found that some bags will leak and the ziplock catches the leaking milk. When you freeze make sure you lay your bags down..A first I keep my upright...what a space waster.
