punctuation - does anyone know..

where to put the period when you end a sentence with parentheses?

is it :

make a right turn onto Deer Park Ave (rte 231.)

or ........................... Deer Park Ave (rte 231).

and should the 'r' in rte be capitalized?

I am typing up my direction cards!!

the period goes after the parenthesis.

I think the r should be capitalized.

Thank you all! I could of sworn that in some instances the period goes before the closed parenthesis. Don't know where I got that one from!!
