FH and I went there back in March and stayed at the Punta Cana Princess resort and Spa. It was so gorgeous, we loved it! it was an adults only resort so no lil kids, since it was only March there wasnt many people there either, which made it even nicer lol but the food was good and they had alot of activities to do

I have such a long time I dont post...but knowing this place so well I must say....

You have great options

bavaro and punta cana have from private couples resorts to larger type of all inclusives...and all have amazing beaches.

I recomend looking into

Gran bahia principe bavaro
Paradisus palma real

and so many more.
for other Dominican republic destinations you can look into puerto plata. they have a couples secrets and i hear its magical.

FH and I went to DR and we did not enjoy it. It is unsafe to leave the resort (which we found out after we left) and every time I tried to relax on the beach I was interrupted by people trying to sell me things. We were also sick from the food the whole time.

it's got a lot of bugs too. if it rains, guaranteed mosquitoes too.
it was way too hot & way too sticky. all the food tasted the same. i went twice thinking it was the resort, but the second place was pretty bad too. compared to places i have been to before.

it's cheap for a reason, in my opinion.

hm.m. i've never gone but my aunt went over the summer and had an absolutly horrible time. she had a lot of things that she did not like including the attitudes of the workers and people there, along with the constant solicitation on the resort by people who were not affiliated with the resort.. she said it was horrible.. matter of fact, fh and i were going to go to Punta Cana for our honeymoon UNTIL she got back and spoke so poorly of it.. i paid the difference in airplane fees and changed our honeymoon to somewhere else..

we went to punta cana last year and had a blast. we stayed at the bavaro princess all suites resort. we didn't have problems with people selling us stuff on the beach, but it is not that safe to leave the resort unless you're on a guided tour. luckily, we have strong stomachs and were able to eat to our hearts content w/out getting sick.

I highly recommend staying at Excellence Punta Cana!! I have heard nothing but rave reviews of this place from family and friends as well as strangers. This is where Fred and I are going. It is all inclusive, so you get meals, drinks, entertainment, water sports and do not have to worry about lugging cash around.

They have a mile long pool that meanders around the property, palmtrees on the gorgeous beach, a swim up pool bar, canopied beach beds, free horseback riding on the beach, a ton of restaurants and bars on the property, lots of shows, a disco, canopied beds in the rooms, a spa, cooking classes, Spanish classes, etc.

If you get the Honeymoon package, which is free with 7 nights or more, you get a fruit basket in the room, champagne, a special honeymooners banner on your door, and chocolates on your pillow at night. They even plan a private romantic gourmet dinner for you right on the beach with tiki torches. Afterwards you come back to your room to find a bubble bath for two with champagne, candles all around and rose petals in the bath. You also get a couples treatment included at the spa. You can get a couples massage in a hut on the beach under the moonlight. With the Honeymoon Suite, you get your own private jacuzzi tub in the room and your own private deck with jacuzzi outside of the room!

AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!

I went there with some friends about two years ago. We loved Sunscapes the only thing it is great for pool, but not for the beach. Secrets all inclusive is in Punta Cana not far from Sunscapes and that is more for only couples where Sunscapes had more families/children.

wow...I'm sorry so many girls didn't have a great time...

FH and I just went there recently and stayed at Excellence, and we LOVED it! We're lucky, we get to travel a fair bit, but this was probably one of our favorite vacations!

I wrote a rave about it somewhere on this site, and FM me if you want more details, but we HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Punta Cana (well, at least the Excellence resort, since we haven't stayed anywhere else...)

FH and i stayed at sunscape and LOVED it!!! FM me if you want more info....it's a beautiful place and a beautiful pool! And you can go to the all adult resort also all inclusive since they are owned by the same company. The only downside i can think of...and it didn't bother me....was that the ocean isn't the carribean ocean there...so it's not the bluest water but we stayed at the pool most of the time. Let me know if you have questions!

My parents are gonig there this week and staying at The majestic colonial there. supposedly a brand new hotel. They got good recommendations from their travel agent about that.

Re: Punta Cana?

Actually we went with Sharvin08 (who responded) and she is right. it was great for us as couples but maybe for a honeymoon it might have too many kids.....something to think about. Secrets was a little older, but it was great! All adults could be a good thing...

DH and I had this package for our HM. Absolutely AMAZING!!! The resort is amazing. The staff is exceptional. I couldn't get over how friendly everyone was. When we got into JFK coming home, it took us a minute to remember people are nothing like that here lol. Seriosuly though, you can't go wrong with this resort. We can't wait to go back, which we plan to do every 5 years. Pics in my album and I have a link to a review in my wedding review. Lots of advice and specifics in there if you decide to go there.
