Melia Tropical is amazing.
I've heard Excellence is great but I've been to this place 3 times and LOVED it. I went a while back before DR got popular and the price/ value of what you get was phenomenal.

Re: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
The food at majestic was plentiful and very well done! I am from the Dominican Republic myself, so I was very pleased with how they did some of the traditional dishes and the non-traditional foods. Their specialty drink, 'their majestic' was DELISH! There were times that it is all that I 'ate' for lunch.
We booked for the VIP service/package. I am not sure exactly what it is called. But, I thought it was worth it. The difference between the VIP and a regular service is that you get access to different parts of the resort and get a private lounge with food and free unlimited internet, different kind of alcoholic bev. in your room, etc.
FM me if you need more info!

PS.
There is a difference between Majestic Elegance and Majestic Colonial. Colonial is more family and kid friendly. Also, Colonial is technically on the same property but on the OTHER SIDE of the Elegance (but is really a different kind of resort).

Ok so we are down to Excellence Resort, Melia Caribe Tropical, and Secrets in Punta Cana. Which out of these three do people recommend and why? Also which secrets is best: Secrets Sanctuary Cap Cana or Secrets Royal Beach?

Re: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
I went to the Melia Caribe a few years ago with college friends. Long story short we were given two villas on the golf side (our travel agent never booked our rooms at a different hotel and was later arrested for stealing people's money-he never booked a 40 person wedding cruise!) with VIP status. We were across the road from the beach/regular hotel rooms. We either took the shuttle or crossed the road. IDK if it was because of the VIP bracelets but we got great service. Drinks were ALWAYS strong, helpful staff, beautiful resort. Food was OK/good, nothing too spectacular, your average All Inclusive food. If I remember it was about 45min from the airport, but the bus driver let us drink in the van.
I stayed at the Melia in Cozumel, and thought the DR Melia was much better.
Word of advice, I never wear sunscreen at home but the sun was so strong down there I lathered up with 30SPF each day.
