My fiancée and I originally chose the Riviera Maya in Mexico for our October ’09 honeymoon. But now with the Swine Flu we thought of maybe changing it to Punta Cana.
My travel agent suggested either the Excellence or Paradisus Resort. We prefer adults only (which I know Excellence is) but Paradisus has special suites that are adult only which have your own beach, pool, ect.
So I was just wondering if anyone has an opinion on Excellence v. Paradisus.
Also…if we do choose to still do Mexico, can anyone tell me which place has more excursions, Mexico or Punta Cana? We love to hang out on the beach but we also want to be able to go sight seeing and have a little adventure.

We are going to punta cana for our hm, and when i looked into it they had plenty of day trip/excursions to do.

Both are great. I've been to both, but not the new Paradisus. Go to whichever one offers you the best deal. Excellence is a bit further away from the airport, the beach is not as nice because the water is rough. Paradisus is more centrally situated on the strip with other resorts, the beach is great.

Paradisus Punta Cana -- we go ever year, beautiful beaches, good food, great people, great nightlife (club and casino). We were just there in February. We don't even go in the adult section, and i'm a teacher so I am there when the kids are off but I don't find it so bothersome (I'm not a kid person either)
My friend went to excellence in February a week after we got back from the paradisus and she had nothing but complaints about the property being dirty, garbarge on the beach and it just not being taken care of. She is in the process of disputing the trip with her credit card company. Another friend (who doesn't travel much) just got back from a short week there and loved it. So i would say Excellence definitly has mixed reviews.

we've been to both Punta Cana and Riviera Maya, and both are beautiful. The beach in PC is actually nicer than in RM. when we were in PC, the only excursions we did were parasailing and an ATV tour which was a lot of fun. there were a few other things to do, but we felt that RM had a lot more excursions to offer. there are the ruins, xel-ha, xcaret, zip lining, swimming w/ the dolphins. you can't go wrong w/ either place, but if you plan on doing a lot of excursions, i think RM offers you more.

Just an FYI there are 2 Excellence resorts in Mexico. We are booked at Excellence PM which our friends went to and said it was amazing. They also stayed at the Excellence RM at another time and like Playa Mujeres better...it's newer.

There are two Paradisius resorts in Punta Cana - the Paradisius Palma Real and the Paradisius Punta Cana.
FH and I went to the Paradisius Palma Real in Dec 07 and had the most amazing time there. The resort is absolutely gorgeous, and they upgraded us to an ocean view suite because they were not full. I was so amazed that I wrote this long review of the place on Tripadvisor.com, with pictures. FM me if you want me to send it to you.
Also, from what I've been told Paradisius Punta Cana gets more families, and Palma Real gets more HMers. When we were there, we did not see any families - just couples.
