Puppy keeps biting me! How can I teach him to stop?

Puppy keeps biting me! How can I teach him to stop?

I know he's playing but he prefers to chew on my hands and feet agressively, rather than the chew toy. I've tried saying 'NO' firmly...saying 'NO' and putting him in his crate for two minutes each time he does it and even lightly tapping his nose when he bites and he's still biting. He doesn't bite my husband as much. Has this happened to anyone and if so how did you stop it? Thanks!

Hey! We had the same problem. Most puppies are like this. Get him a Kong toy and fill it up w/ the filling they sell. It will keep him occupied for hours. Also get a nyla, chew bone. They like that too. Chewie was teething til about a month ago and he is 8 months old now. I wouldn't punish him w/ the crate cause they say they might not want to sleep in it if you punish them in it. He won't want to go in the crate at night cause he might think he is in trouble. Good luck. It will get better, I promise.

What Valentinegirl said
I was told too that you never use the crate as punishment.
We got Bama to stop biting very quickly by yelling 'no' at him. And I mean YELLING. I felt so bad yelling at him like that, but it worked. We also did the injured dog yelp when he'd bite us, because that's how dogs know that they're biting too hard is when the other dog yelps in pain.

After yelling at Bama we'd give him something tasty to chew on, like a bacon flavored nylabone.

When he plays with DH, he'll bite him but now he knows to do it softly.

you can also try Sour Apple spray that you spray on your hands - when you spray it on and he tastes it, say NO so he associates the bad taste with the word and your hands. You can also get an empty soda can and fill it with change and shake it and say no. Casey is only sort of outgroing this at 5 months...so i feel your pain you must have the chewy toys and snacks LOL!

he needs chew toys. he needs to know he can bite tehm but not you. eventually, once he associats the word NO he'll stop... but he's young , its gonna happen. i have 4 puppies right now and theyre all 6 weeks old.. they chew everything. Its just a matter of time til you teach him.

I have tons and tons and tons of chew toys.. They help but not much. She doesn't chew me as much as FH... but he lets her lightly naw on him.... I keep telling him she is just a baby she doesn't know the difference between light chewing and biting. SO i don't let her chew on me even a little and if she tries and walk away from her and refuse to play. I don't know if you are letting her chew lightly but I would suggest making all chewing off limits.... It works for me but not for poor fh... He looks like he had a bad date with Edward Sissor hands.

This was my DH too! Shake a coffee can w/ change in it and say no. They get really scared and realize you mean no.

I tried the shaking the can with change and it scared him so much...I felt horrible...he didn't want to come near me for a while.

Lucy could care less about the coffee can!

She does the chewing thing to DH but not me, I attribute that to me being the one who really disciplines her and he is the softy! She is so much more agressive with him but she listens to me so much more readily!

I dont have much advice because Lucy would much rather her blues clues toys to even DH's hand!
