was wondering why I was told I have to wait till she is a year for her first vet visit.
Also she is a pure breed lab weighing already 28lbs. Is that a good healthy weight for her?? We are feeding her puppy food not spaghetti
She gets 1 1/2 cups of puppy food in the morning and 1 1/2 cups for dinner.
If anyone can suggest some links that I can learn from about raising a puppy/dog
thanks!

We have a lab too - he went to the vet all the time in his first year, but after the 1st year he only needs yearly check-ups.
I think the purina website has a lot of doggie facts.

First off, I'm not sure who told you to wait a year. The puppy will need to be 'fixed' if you choose probably at 5-6 months, it needs its shots and also checkups.
The weight sounds about right. My brother has a lab (check my icon pic) and he was quite active/hungry, etc. They fed him twice a day as well. That sounds about right (amount).
I would check out purina.com or put in a search for dog health or such.

The pup will need all sorts of vaccines before he his a year. Call your vet and get him in there. I know in the first few weeks/months of life, you are supposed to keep the pup from other dogs because of Parvo, but have never heard of any other restrictions.

I know that she got all her shots from the breeder because he is also a licensed vet he said the only thing she will need now is a booster shot which would be done when she is a year. She also took all her deworming pills I'm just going to go to my local vet anyway so that they have a record for her. thanks again for your advice.

Who told you to wait a year? That's absolutely not true, you should take him to vet as soon as the dog is purchased, even if the 'seller' was a veternarian, you should have the dog checked out by an independent vet., just to be sure everything is all right with the puppy. It's the smart thing to do as a consumer, let alone as a new mommy!
Good luck! Post pics!!!!

You should have taken your puppy to the VET the day after you bought him. Most puppy stores and breeders offer a money back guarantee based on a vet check. For example, if the vet found any congenital defects, etc you could return/exchange the puppy for a healthy one.
I have a slight worry that the seller of your puppy was avoiding this issue by telling you to wait a year till you go to a vet, however, it was probably just a misunderstanding or something.
Your puppy is more than likely a healthy happy dog (you would most likely have noticed otherwise) but you should DEFINITELY have your dog visit a vet as soon as possible.
edited: I just read your second post. Its a good sign that your breeder/vet gave the pup her initial medications/vaccines, etc, but I would still get her checked by a second vet to be sure everything is good!
P.S. Labs are an excellent breed of dog you will LOVE your pup!!!! Congrats!
