They are so cute! They make it so hard to rescue a puppy these days! I have to have experience with that breed? That really limits the # of people who could adopt them.
(I always pay for vet care etc and believe in micro chipping etc) but what happens to these pups if noone can afford to adopt them.
If my landlord would say yes, I would adopt A puppy (were renting a house with property and a fenced yard while looking at houses to buy) . Ive lived with dogs my whole life and now I feel like Im missing something.
Anyway, I hope they go to good homes.

Re: pure husky puppies up for adoption...
Michelle I grew up with greyhounds and whippets. I notice they have a female greyound puppy that is deaf. My family is looking for a female pup. Do you know what the obstacles are with a deaf dog. Do you think they can be trained alright? They have a young female whippet at home (who is terribly sweet)
Deaf dogs are very easy to train. You would need to use hand signals for her. I read on the site that all the dogs are in foster care. So has foster family had to use hand signals for the dog to understand. In a way, it would be good.. I mean they don't get scared on the fourth of july .
Let me know what happens.
ps If you know anyone who wishes to adopt a cat or kitten, have them check out this websiteact
I used to volunteer there. Unfortunately, due to health reasons, i had to stop .

siberian huskies are a real handful - i have one and he was a real pain in the neck for the first year always trying to tunnel out of the yard - then he discovered he could flat jump over the 6 foot fence !!! - that was alot of fun- i can see why they want prior experience cause people think these dogs are so cute till you are chasing him around the neighborhood for 4 hours at 6 am. the local shelter here told me they get more husky puppies than anything else. granted he calmed down after the first year and now runs the backyard on his airplane cable ( which is bolted to the house) but man oh man i wouldnt do that first year over for all the tea in china.

a friend of mine used to have a Husky. The only reason she had to give her up was because she was moving to a hot climate that wasn't good for the dog. She had a great experience though. her one and only complaint was the shedding. there was hair everywhere. Other than that though, the dog was GREAT with her little niece & nephew and was very mild tempered. you have to keep in mind that Huskies are 'work dogs', they pull sleds. so they may take you for a walk instead of vice versa. but one HUGE plus (IMO) is that they don't bark. They do howl sometimes.
If I were to get a dog, it would really be hard to choose between a Husky & a yellow Lab.

Re: pure husky puppies up for adoption...
As a husky owner, I can see why they would only let people with prior experience adopt these puppies. Huskies are a tough breed. Most huskies are very loving and affectionate, but they don't tend to listen well. They have a little more 'wild' in them then other breeds. Don't get me wrong, I love my Tasha, but she is a handful. She's going to be 7 years old this summer and she still acts like a puppy. When I first got her she bit a whole through my parents deck wall. She has chewed patio furniture, dug grave sized holes in the backyard, and she seems to be a fan of skunks. She has separation anxiety and will pee or poop right in front of the door just to spite you. And someone mentioned that huskies don't bark- and I can tell you that's not true. Some are much more verbal than others, but my Tasha will bark at you for attention and she's been know to howl for hours on end. I won't even get into the amount of hair she loses. To be honest, I can understand why so many huskies are up for adoption. They require a lot more work than other breeds, but they're so damn cute/pretty that people who can't handle them continue buying them. If you have the time and patience to commit to a husky, you will be happy with your choice. They are pack dogs and love constant attention and are more than happy to give you all of that love and affection right back. They are great with kids and just egnerally unagressive. I love my girl and I'm not trying to put anything other than that across. I just wanted to make people a little more aware about the breed.

I more than 100% agree. We love maya our husky, but she is a total handful. She just turned 2 and is starting to slow down a little bit but does not listen and is a total troublemaker. Affectionate, sweet, loves kids and beautiful but huskies are NOT for everyone.

Update for you. My mom has been away for a few days up at our lake house so I wasnt able to tell her about the greyhound. She called me to tell me that she got a whippet puppy from upstate. They named her Indy for independence day.
