Pushing up wedding date when dress shopping..

Pushing up wedding date when dress shopping..

I have heard that it is recommended to do this, so when I start dress shopping for the first time this week, I am going to say a month ealier.
But my question is, what happens when you are getting your alterations done? Shouldn't you get them done as close to the actual wedding date as possible? If I tell them a month earlier and I get my dress there, will I end up having to get alterations a month earlier??

When I ordered my BM dress from Macy's, the woman actually suggested I lie about the bride's wedding date so that the dress maker would ship the dress sooner.

Once your dress comes in. you do not have to have it altered right away. you can wait several weeks before you do. For example, you tell the bridal shop that your wedding is August 6,2005 when it is actaully in October 6 2005 and they order the dress. If the dress comes in the month of March, you do not have to get in altered until the end of Aug beginning of Sept.

If you go to a store that knows what the heck they are doing, you should not have to lie! I really never understood that to be honest...

But aren't they going to wonder why you are waiting so long to get it altered...being you told them the wedding was earlier??

(I sound so clueless!! I am!! )

I totally agree!!
I didnt lie about my date at all. I ordered my dress in Feb, it came in June....and my first fitting wasnt scheduled until....Tomorrow..(holy cow, I cant believe it!). I am going very early for my first fitting, too, but that is because I want to have crystals added to my speghetti straps, and also I want to have fabric covered buttons added down the back of my dress.

Anyways, I think you should go to a shop that knows what they're doing and you dont have to worry about lying!

I know ppl who have done that...but not by a month...more like a week...so if ur getting hitched aug 21, u tell them ur date is aug 14

I totally agree... but what can it hurt? I lied... just make sure you keep the dates straight to yourself because I kept throwing out random Saturdays in Sept to different shops and I got all confused!!

I didn't bother lying about my date. I would like to go for my last fitting as close to the wedding as possible and I didn't want to seem like I had lied.

This is so common they won't think twice about the dates as long as you pay them what's due and when.

I told them my actual wedding date and when they wrote up the order THEY put an earlier date to submit to the manufacturer.

They are not going to hold your dress hostage if you tell them your wedding is 6/1 when it's really 6/15.

I l wasn't exactly sure of my date when I purchased my dress but I still said sooner. I've known lots of people that have had problems getting their dress and have had to pick it up 2 days before their wedding. I want my dress early so it is one less thing for me to worry about at the last minute.

I didn't do that and my dress came in 2 months early anyway.

Ive been told by many people to do so and I will lie in order to be safe than sorry. Im actually lying by 3 months only so I can remember the date or else I'll look like an idiot (same date and day just different month).

Once the dress comes in, I will then tell them we pushed our date up.......so that way you can take your time w/ your alternation appts.

I just ordered my dress and I didn't push up the date. I trust the place I ordered from and they told me the designer usually takes 6 months to ship. That would leave me 4 months for alterations. I wanted them to know the right date because of the alterations. I am not worried about it though.

Re: Pushing up wedding date when dress shopping..

I originally gave them my real date and then when we had to change halls, I changed it to almost two months earlier because we didn't know if we could get the same date at a new place. We did end up with the same date, but it's a good thing I gave them an earlier date because they ordered the wrong color dress. Less than four months to my wedding, they had to rush order my dress in the correct color. It came in time for my wedding but if it was the fake date, I don't think I would have made it. Better to be safe than sorry - put an earlier date and then after the dress comes in, tell them the date is incorrect.
