My mother and MIL keep calling me and asking me about my shower. Is this weird?
'When do you want to have it.'
'Who do you want to invite.'
'What theme do you want'
'Can I help?'
My MOH is my sister, shes a doctor and spends 90 hours per week at the hospital, so I understand she can't plan it. My other BM is my 18 year old sister in college. She is definitly not contributing - and that is totally fine with me.
I know it is not going to be a surprise, I didn't want it to be. But I also don't want to plan it!! I think I have proven to be a super-organized planning machine with the wedding, so everyone is scared to do the shower 'wrong.
'I am going to write the moms an email today to let them know they can just take the ball and run with it (WITHOUT my approval on everything.)
but my question is: Did you help plan your shower in any way? Or did you just show up?

Re: Putting together your own shower?
I am helping to plan mine basically for two reasons -
1. My MOH lives in Chicago and asked me to help with it. Apparently she has never heard of or been to a surprise shower!!! 2. My mother wants to have it on Caffe on the Green in Bayside- which is totally fine, but I feel like I have been there so many times and I really want it in the city.
I have started to call around some places and get pricing info. My mom gave me a budget and she's not good at these things anyway. I called Tavern on the Green for kicks, dn they start at $85 a head for a freakin shower!!!! Needless to say, it won't be there!
I figure I will find 3 possible places to have it and then hand it over to my MOH to work out the details.

Re: Putting together your own shower?
My mom's planning it. I gave her a guest list with addresses and suggestions on where I'd like to have it.
FH has already told me who bought the missing items on our registry and I told him not to tell me anything about the shower unless it was absolutely necessary.

Re: Putting together your own shower?
My MOH (Sister) and mom are planning my shoower with a little help from my BM. All they asked me for was a guest list.
I just wish I knew when it was!

Re: Putting together your own shower?
My MOH's keep telling me to take a seat! I'm such a control freak, that I want to make sure it's what I want. I don't want a shower in someone's house.. I want a restaurant or a lounge! I want strippers, so I told them to write on the invite, strippers will be from such & such time,so folks can chose to see the MANDINGO or come afterwards!
Their like! ANYTHING ELSE MO??? I said, that's it for now!

Re: Putting together your own shower?
Since I am out of town, it couldn't be a surprize since I have to fly in for it. But I don't know anything about the details, only that it will be at my mom's. She would have the wedding at her house if I would have let her!
My bachlorette party is a different story. My brother's wife is planning it since they live in CA with me. We are going away for the weekend and all I know is that the girls were given two choices- expensive and not expensive. I don't even know the date- only that its one of the first 3 weekends in June. Supposedly, I am going to get kidnapped. Very interesting. I am dying to see what my FH will pack for me- large over coats and grannie clothes I am sure

Re: Putting together your own shower?
Yea, I am helping with the planning because for me, I think they are trying to make it what I would want because my mom, sis, and I are so different so they asked me if there were any themes, of course for the guest list, games, prizes, etc. I think for me, they are just trying to make it waht I want it to be so I told them that I only wanted one game (bridal bingo - I love that game) and that coktails needed to be served

Re: Putting together your own shower?
I would plan it myself if I was allowed too. But I at least was allowed to say I want it at home and around a particular date since there is a good chance that I will be doing a lot of traveling from March thru May.
I hate surprises anyway

Re: Putting together your own shower?
I am planning most of my shower too. At first I was a little disappointed about it but my FH and I just moved out of state and so my mom figured I would have to know when it was so I can come home. Since she told me I also feel like most of the planning has been left up to me. Its a weird feeling though...cause I feel like most people look at me thinking, shouldn't someone else be doing this?

Re: Putting together your own shower?
I help with the shower a little bit. Just what I really want there. Like music - incase no one wants to play games, we can just dance and have a good time. Little things like that, that I really want there, I help my mom with it, other than that, they are trying to keep most a surprise.
Though, my mom is not too good on surprises I know everything about it. But thats okay with me, I sourta 'approve' it. I don't want it to be too cheezy for people attending.

Re: Putting together your own shower?
I only gave my wedding list. I have no idea when mine is, even though I want to know. I hate surprises and my MH knows that, she's loving the idea, it's killing me. We all know when it's coming around when you see alot of things come off your registry.

Re: Putting together your own shower?
My mom is planning it with lots of help from my MOH. I supplied them with a guest list (including anyone FMIL thinks should be there) and the registry enclosure cards.

Re: Putting together your own shower?
I am going to help my mom plan it because my MOH (sister) lives in Alaska and won't be able to make it back to New York for a shower. I also HATE surprises and I have been so busy with appointments and work stuff that I really need to know what day it is so I don't schedule anything on that day.
