Q about hotel rooms

So if I book rooms for say a 8 day period but some people don't book but for 5 days is there some sort of repercussions against me? Some people are intending on staying the full 8 days, some shorter maybe some longer.

Re: Q about hotel rooms

i'm not sure, but i don't think i would block rooms for that long of a time period. i would give a minimun of two days and if people want to stay longer, they indicate taht to the hotel. but i would also ask your hotel.

Re: Q about hotel rooms

i don't think there's any penalty. there's usually a cutoff period like a month before the event at which point any rooms that aren't booked are released to the public. so you should always overestimate when blocking rooms.

Re: Q about hotel rooms

I agree, I would overestimate on the number of rooms and only block it for a couple of nights, but I would ask the hotel, they would be the best to know.

Re: Q about hotel rooms

Ok thanks girls I am still in the process of looking for hotels. It's so odd though that when I ask for a group rate yet it's still higher than finding the same hotel on Expedia.com do you think the hotel would give me the rate I found online?

I agree we booked the room for a whole weekend to get the same price but no everyone is staying the weekend and whatever rooms aren't taken will go back up for the public!!

some might but most won't unfortunately. they factor in the fact that they're guaranteeing you a block of rooms, whereas on expedia they only have a few rooms and there's no guarantee that all your guests will get it. that's the answer we got when the same thing happened to us.
