What do you do if someone says something like, 'oh look at my new ______' and you don't like the item?

Re: Q of the D
Usually, if I know the person I'll be honest, but if it's someone I don't know, I don't say anything.

Are they asking your opinion on it? Or they bought it...they love it...you don't?
If it's the first scenario, I'm always tactfully honest. The second...if they love it that's all that matters.

Re: Q of the D
it entirely depends on the type of relationship i have with the person.
a good friend, who knows my no BS, honesty always rule - honesty.
a casual friend - lie and pretend i love it or not say a word

depends on who it is and the situation. if its one of my best friends, i'll be very honest and tell them that as long as you like it, that's all that matters. if it's a coworker or someone i kinda know in passing, i'll usually say something like, 'ooh, good for you!' this way i share their enthusiam (cause i'm happy for them, that they love what they got), without actually saying i dont' like the item.

It depends on who's asking...thougheven if it's a stranger I try to give my honest opinion. I'm just probably more brutally honest with someone I'm close too and more prudent with someone I don't know.

Re: Q of the D
i think it depends on what it is
for instance, e-rings - everyone has their own style when it comes to jewelry - so just because i dont like the particular style and wouldnt pick it for myself, that doesnt necessarily mean i think its not beautiful KWIM? because seriously what diamond is not pretty?
also things like clothes, hairstyles, even houses - people like different things - i dont know i guess when it comes to a lot of things im pretty indifferent - i really cant think of anything i have seen lately that i thought was hideous....but if i did, depending on the situation probably would be honest if they were asking my opinion....
what does irk me is when someone has something nice and people say its ugly just because they dont like the person - that bothers me, its like who cares, why cant you just admit its nice? or when a girl say another girl is ugly when clearly the girl is attractive and its because they are jealous or dont like them that they say they are ugly - stuff like that irks me really bad!

It depends on who it is and what type of relationship I have with them. If we are close (FH, BF and mom) I will be honest with them. If it's a co-worker I usually don't say anything at all.

Re: Q of the D
None of the above - I try to find SOMETHING positive to say about it. For example, I know this one woman who buys the most gaudiest pocketbooks - but, they're always the latest style so I think it's just me and my taste. So I'll say something like 'ooh look at you, always at the height of fashion!'

Re: Q of the D
I would totally lie!!! Why in the world would I want to hurt their feelings?
Even if they asked my opinion, I would lie. Especially face-to-face.
