I think this sets a horrible precedent!!!! I understand that she's mad and she gave up a lot for him...but why would you want to force someone to marry you if they dont' want to!!!

that is so freaking sad that the judge ruled in her favor. I agree if you break off the wedding the two people involved should split the bills of the wedding and/all anything associated with the wedding expenses. What should not be awarded is a 'loss of a job.' That is life you make decisions this person didn't swindle you or con you just got cold feet and figured out this thing wasn't going to work. What should of they have gotten married then divorced right after? I mean this is stupid.

Life gives us freedom of choice/will. It is your fault if you make the wrong choice so accept it.

Re: Q of the Day Inside!! Jilted bride calls $150,000 jury award ‘justice’

I can understand if she paid for everything and she was suing to get back half of what she paid b/c it was just as much his wedding as it was hers. I do not see how it is fair that he has to pay her 150, plus she got the ring.... all b/c he didnt want to marry her anymore.... that is totally unfair, it is not like he put a gun to her head and told her to quit her job.... she made that decision. Yes a promise was made when they got engaged, but unfortunately, sometimes promises are broken.

Would you really want to stay in a relationship just because your scared that you may get sued?! Isn't it better to end things b/4 u get married?!?!?!

I think it's absolutely disgusting, actually. He broke off an engagement which happens all the time. It's not illegal to do so and he shouldn't have to pay $150k for it! I just don't understand how it was even possible that she was granted this $$. There is something seriously wrong here...

what a C*** he had given her $30,000 to pay off her own debt, not many people would do that. She should've appreciated that no matter how things turned out and at least remember what he did do for her. You dont sue somebody who tried to help you financially and paid off a big chunk of your debt.

I hope he does appeal like he said he will and wins that one

so true, no you'll have every idiot trying to sue when they break off an engagement. And im sure there will be others who will sue even if they were just going out not even engaged. Couples who are just seeing eachother relocate many times, it was a horrible decision.

oh man, I heard this on O&A the other day and I was kinda embarrassed to be a woman.

I hope there was more to this story that the public didn't know.

I mean I can see if the wedding was fully planned and paid for and him having to pay his half of it b/c hell no would I pay for that **** if he broke it off, but to be granted 150K for emotional distraught basically is disgusting.

While I do think it is unnecessary, situations like this are the exception to the rule. The girl almost never gets to keep the ring (the guy gets it back no matter who broke off the engagement) and the girl/her family traditionally get stuck with any wedding expenses.

I think in this case part of it was based on reliance -- she gave up a higher paying job in reasonable reliance of their marriage, and now that it fell through she is financially 'damaged.' not sure this case is really a great example of it, but I can definitely see both sides in cases where someone may give up their career to move across the country for a relationship that fails.

I think it's a slippery slope though, and most states don't enforce breach of a K to marry anymore anyway.

I dont think this decision will stand but it will be interesting to see what happens.
