Hello girls!!! TGIF!!!!!!!!!!

We all know people who have both great marriages and not so great marriages! When I think of a great couple, I think of my parents first. Even though my parents fight sometimes, I know they really love each other, they share the same morals, goals, parenting ideas, etc.

here it goes....

Who in your life do you know of that has a great marriage that you look to for inspiration or just some advice? Also, what did you learn from the not so good marriages?

Have a great day!!!!!

FH's aunt and uncle have been together for 30 years. I think the best thing about their marriage is that they accept their relationship as what works for them without feeling bad if something doesn't meet some standard that everybody agrees is important. i try to think that way with FH--this is what makes US happy, so nobody else matters.

my mom and dad, his mom and dad along with so many others allowed anger to fester and pollute the relationship. neither of us will stand for that. we talk everything out, we give each other lots of room to be imperfect, and we fight like people who love each other and want to make-up.

My family has a lot of strong marriages.. I look at how they treat one another, how they always show respect toward one another. Then I know of one relationship that is one sided. One person does whatever they want as if they have no spouse or kids and the other does everything.. it's sad. I want to go into this with respect, commitment and an understanding that it's a 2 person marriage and not a 'who can be more selfish' one.

My grandparents were married 50 years when my grandpa died last October. They were such an inspiration. Things weren't always a fairy tale for them but they let things roll off their back and they didn't hold things against each other. If they had a problem they knew, at some point, they'd have to change it OR accept it and get past it.

My mother had a bad marriage and I guess it just boiled down to marrying the wrong person. But I guess the only thing that can make that clear is hindsight so there isn't much that could have been done differently. She got out after 5 years and started a new life for us. I admire her for knowing when enough is enough.

My parents... They have their ups and downs like every couple, but they are truly amazing and inspiring. They always support eachother no matter what. They just recently adopted 3 kids (my cousins) so now they have 6 kids in total. I just think taking on a responsibility like that as a couple is amazing.

My parents....and my grandmother is great in the advice department. I also like talking to my friends who are recently married to get different points of view on things.

I would definitely have to say my grandparents and parents. My parents have been married for 27 years and my dad's parents would have been married 55 years in October but my Pepa passed in September. Now my mom's parents would have been married 50 years but my Grammie passed in November of 2002 and that year would have been their 50th. Yes of course there are ups and downs but that's with every relationship it's just a matter of working through the problems and differences. As my Pepa always used to say 'never go to be angry at each other '

i really don't know too many people that have GREAT marriages. i have friends who have just been married for a short amount of time. i really (sadly) just take notes of the relationships my parents had, and what FH has told me about his. Every time i hear about a marriage breaking up, a lot of it is miscommunication and having intentions of doing one thing, and then doing something completely different. FH and i talk all the time and we are VERY open with each other. we know how we want to raise our children, handle our finances, etc. i think for those of us getting married in a church, the FOCCUS thing really helps open doors of communication. i think if my parents did something like that, they would have talked about more things before getting married and there wouldn't be so much miscommunication about the intentions for the family and marriage.

My parents will be married 32 years next week. when i think of marriage and a happy family and home i think of them. i can't ever remember seeing my parents fighting or arguing. im sure they did but never in front of us. even wen my mom would bicker my dad always remained cool and calm. they complement each other perfectly.

fh's parents are also another couple i admire. they still act like they are still dating. it is too cute!

I'd have to say my mom and dad. They are each really committed to each other and are my role models.

For the not so great marriages, I definitely learned that you need to protect yourself sometimes. You need to make sure that you can support yourself if something ever happens one day and that communication is really key. Trying to keep the spark alive is also important.

My grandparents without a doubt! I want the kind of the marriage they had. Through up and downs, the good and the bad they worked it out. You could really just see the unconditional love they had for each other.

My grandparents were the most amazing role model for the perfect marriage. After 60 years of marriage they still held hands and kissed each other. Even my grandfathers death was sweet I know that sounds crazy but hear me out. He wanted to be at home and not the hosp. So he was brought home. He sat in his chair my grandmother went to him kissed him and whispered I love you and with his last bit of energy and breathe kissed her back and muttered his last words 'I love you Elsie'

The strongest marriage in my family would be my sister...my MOH. They have been togetrher for well over 20 years, yet they still act like newly-weds. I love them. I mean, yes, they have their ups and downs, but for the most part they are always happy. I hope in 20 years me and FH are just like them.
