With the holidays coming up I've been thinking about family traditions, both new and continued.
Are there any new holiday traditions you and FH have established since getting engaged? Or, plan to start after you are married?

no specifically since getting engaged. On christmas eve, we always exchange an ornament with the year on it- we have been doing it since our first christmas together. we always go out to look at christmas lights, watch christmas movies, etc.
we just moved in together in sept. so this will be the first set of holidays we spend together all day. I can't wait to see what traditions we start this year :)
eta: once we have kids I will incorporate Elf on the Shelf, new christmas pjs on christmas eve, advent calendars, etc.

FH and I really havent created any NEW traditions, per se - but we are certainly carrying on many of the traditions started by family when we were children. My mom - still to this day - gets us 'kids' new PJs to wear to bed Christmas Eve....and now FH is one of the Kids that gets new sleepwear. FH and I also get a new ornament for the tree each year. And I have definitely adopted the family obsession with the stocking gifts. Its my favorite thing to 'open' and now its my favorite thing to put together for my FH.

we are going to cut down our first christmas tree next weekend. FH always goes with his parents to do this; now we will start going ourselves. We'll keep a slice from the bottom and label it with the year (i'll get crafty and do something with these )

Before we got engaged we did not spend Holidays together.. SInce we got engaged (and moved in together a few months after) we have been splitting Holidays with our families. We go to most Holidays at my families house but Christmas Eve is for his family. We take his daughter and go to his Aunts house. His mom and her finace are even there which is very nice. (his parents are divorced and its his fathers SIL). Christmas Morning we wake up early and go to visit his daughter and her mother, have breakfast with them and see what Santa brought her (they live in our building) Then it is off to my moms house for lunch and dinner :) Once we are married and upgrade to a two bedroom the only change may be we may keep his daughter until Xmas morning and take her to her moms to watch her open her gifts from Santa.. Plus she can open our gifts xmas morning at our house which would be nice.. We always give her gifts separate and at our house usually the Monday after Xmas so we have my moms gifts for her there too.

every year we've gotten an ornament like our first Christmas together, than engaged, and next will be like just married. this thanksgiving we are all going to my aunts house which is a first. usually I did that and FH just went home to his mom. & sister.
I wanted a tradition of every year going to the city, us meeting my dad at work in the city, going to dinner and then seeing the tree. I've been on a hardcore diet since last year and am still on it so yeah haven't done that since our first year together at least I have that pic of the first year, will be good for the montage lol.

FH and I have not started any new traditions but once we have children I'm sure we will. Christmas Eve is a big thing for my family (i'm Italian), we go to my mom's for the feast of all feast, do a grab bag and sing Christmas carols after dinner, the 12 days of Christmas is the best one, everyone gets their own number to sing. This is something we have done my whole life so I will definitely continue this tradition. I think this is one of the main reasons I love Christmas so much!!

Same here for the ornaments.. every year we get an ornament together that symbolizes something that happend that year.. our first xmas together we got a 'our first place' and when we got our dog we got a dog ornament
We don't have any new traditions but we have lots of family ones that we now share. He's super italian so i've gotten to celebrate many CRAZY christmas eves with his big family and all of the seven fishes lol. My family doesn't do any thing for christmas eve so we get to spend christmas day with my family. I absolutely love that it's one holiday we don't need to switch on and off for. FH always says he can't wait till we get to host for the holidays.
FH bought our house before we started dating and never decorated for christmas (or any holiday for that matter). Since we started dating, I've helped him get in the spirit and now we get a tree every years and drink egg nog while decorating. Im so excited this is my first year moved in with him so the decorating is going to get even crazier. I love this time of year :)

Our tradition we started was to always get a Christmas tree together and decorated together, we also bake an apple crumb pie together for either thanksgiving or Christmas..I want to try to start getting an ornament together every year and that's something we'll always remember as we put up a tree as the years go by

Fh and I are saving for a house once we are married and in our own house we plan to cut down our own Christmas tree and I will save the bottom and turn them into ornaments for the tree. I'm Italian and we do Christmas eve big so usually fh and I go to my moms. once we have a house I will most likely take over Christmas eve. We have a tradition of going into the city and going to the tree we have been doing that since we started dating and will probably continue that tradition.
Once we have kids we will most likely do some of the same traditions we grew up with. I am actually in the middle of making an advent calendar its a wooden Christmas tree with draws for each day leading up to Christmas. I can't wait to have kids and do that with them. I used to look so forward to waking up and seeing what treat was left in the calendar. Unfortunately the one I grew up with was either thrown out or lost in a move. We also go around and look at the lights and watch Christmas movies. I also do a TON of Christmas baking so no doubt that will continue on.

This will be my first and last Christmas engaged and it won't be any different except he may be joining me and my family for Eve in Farmingdale, where my cousins are. That would be huge as he's never participated on Eve with my family. Holidays are an interesting time of compromise for us because in the past, he never wanted to give up Eve. I look forward to seeing the struggle in married life for him
Once we have children I am sure some new traditions will arise.

We don't really have anything new that we've done since we got engaged but we have a few things that we've done each year since we've been dating.
Thanksgiving morning FH and I usually drink eggnog or spiked apple cider while we watch the parade.
Christmas is my favorite time of year and I hate that there is always so much going on. We have a lot of nights where we just lounge around and watch Christmas movies (Elf!!) and drink hot chocolate with whipped cream vodka! Yum!! We used to spend the whole morning/afternoon together on Christmas Eve but now FH works
We decided that when we have a place of our own, the first weekend day after Thanksgiving will be the day we decorate our place. We also discussed splitting our gifts in half: half to open on Christmas morning and half to open the weekend after Christmas so we can drag out the holidays a little longer
Once we have a house, we'll cut down our own trees each year but they don't allow them in the places we're look at

Every year that we have lived together (and been engaged) we go and cut down our tree. Then, before we take it to the curb after the holidays, we cut a thin slice of the trunk and create an ornament for the following years' trees. We write 'Our first christmas tree' and the date, for example. I didnt know if we would stick with it, but every year when I open them up and remember them I feel very nostalgic. Cant wait until the day our kids are helping us make them!
