Q.O.T.D. 12/14/11

Q.O.T.D. 12/14/11: With the holidays upon us, how will you and FH be splitting your time amongst your families? Will this change once you're married?

FH's parents are divorced which makes the holiday sharing more complicated. He spent Thanksgiving out of state away from me b/c I had to work. Christmas I proposed we split amongst our families here on LI. I don't know if that is going to happen because he doesn't want to leave his mom along even for a short time. I hope this all changes once we are married

This is the great thing about being interfaith, we dont share holidays. So we spend catholic holidays with my family and jewish holidays with his. The only holiday we have in common is thanksgiving and we generally spend it with my family.

We split Thanksgiving and Christmas. His sister gets us for Thanksgiving, so we go to her in-laws. For Christmas we go to Maine with my family and then Boston to see his other sister. Then we also do a small dinner with his sister and her husband to celebrate.

our holidays involve ALOT of driving.

we host Christmas Eve, which is also FH's mom's bday, for about 15 ppl (in a small aparttment lol)

then

wake up early exchange gifts with eachother, then off to my moms for breakfast and gift with my family. then off to Breezy Point to exchange gift with the rest of my family at my aunts. then off to Park Slope to exchange and have dinner with FH's family. then pass out til the next year! lol

i think next year it will change but bc we will be married but bc my brother will have 2 babies and its a bit much for them to do all that traveling. since they live in L.I.

We spend most holidays here on Staten Island with my family. FH's family is up in Buffalo so it's not always easy (with our work schedules) to drive up there. However, Christmas is always in Buffalo. That's bc it's the one time that FH & his 2 brothers have always been able to come home. My mom doesnt like it too much, I hear 'are you never going to spend a Christmas with us again?' I already told FH that when we have babies thier 1st Christmas will be at OUR house and everyone can come here.

On Christmas we usually just go to my mother's house in the evening of try to push it off the next day. I feel like our families ruin the xmas spirit so I try not to see them on that day. We never go see his family for the holiday since it would just be hell and yelling and they don't really celebrate it anyways.

This is going to be a tough one this year. It will definitely entail alot of driving or spilting up Xmas eve and Christmas Day. FH family is celebrating both so we will have to figure something out. It only works out when his mom hosts at her house b/c they live 15 minutes from my parents. Oh if she could only host every yr LOL Spilting holidays in the future should get interesting LOL

X-mas eve will be with my mother and sister at our house, X-mas morning with my father and whole family, X-mas afternoon/night with my FH's family. This split works fairly well....very lucky!!!

This has been a tough issue the past year or so with us and our families!! For xmas we are spending xmas eve with fh's family and spending xmas day at my parents house. Thanksgiving has always been the tough one- we try splitting it up- like dinner with one family then dessert with the other. If our families weren't so large we would probably do them all together.

Ugh this is a battle every year. Every September I start planning how we're going to hop all over the Island and give everyone equal time. Up until last year we split up for the Holiday's which was making both of us miserable. Last year we thought we had it all worked out, Christmas eve with his family, Christmas morning with his family and Christmas Dinner with my family (worked out to 5 hours with each). Everyone was on board till Christmas Day when his mom flipped and tossed us out saying we were selfish and disrespectful and that she didn't raise her son to do drive by Christmas to his family.

We decided that after we get married that we'll go on vacation for the holiday's.

This year we spent Thanksgiving with my family, Christmas Eve we will be celebrating with my family (Christmas Eve is HUGE in my family), Christmas day we will open presents at our place and then spend the day with his family. We try to take turns with the holidays, with the exception of Christmas Eve. We spent this past Easter with FH's family.
I assume it will stay the same once we are married. I am hoping once we buy a home we will be able to hold one of the holidays by us.
