QOTD 2/15/14

Original post by haw4

Hope all of you ladies had a nice valentines day! It was the last one as a Miss! I freaked out a little bit haha.

So I recently was talking with a friend and wasn't really aware that wedding gifts for your future spouse are actually a thing. I didnt know itt became common to buy a gift for the wedding. Are you ladies getting your FH a wedding gift? Did you know about this?

Apparently not, never got one besides the engagement ring, he always says he didn't know what to get me. I tell him he can't go wrong with flowers, because if I didn't like them, they'd be dead in a week. lol.

honestly, trash talking your FH on here is not going to change things. maybe if you opened your mouth & said it is totally unacceptable for him to be unaware of your feelings and smart enough to buy you a gift more then once in your relationship is your own fault. how can he not know what to buy you? if he doesn't know enough about you to figure out a gift you would like how could he know enough about you to marry you...weird.

ETA: for someone who was never given a gift, I'm pretty sure you mentioned around christmas he bought you a car. just saying...

Also, didn't you post a while back that your FH got you a car? Pretty sure that's a gift. And I'm pretty sure most people wouldn't be unhappy with that.

I thought about giving him b-pics. I ordered a groupon for them and forgot about it so it expired and I missed out. I have been looking into a few different people for it but decided to wait until after the wedding. Maybe I'll do it for Christmas or something.

I plan on getting him a grooms cake for the RD, but haven't had a chance to look into that yet. I did buy him cufflinks that I gave to him on Valentine's Day just to be sure he didn't buy anything else. I ordered them on Etsy. They're map cufflinks so one of them has the map of where we got engaged, in Maui, and the other has the map of Forest Hills, where our first home is. He loved them!

You need to have a conversation about this, sounds like it is a little bothersome to you. Like you said, flowers at least.

I knew about it, he's not getting anything from me. I didn't get a gift for any birthdays/holidays, not even Valentine's Day ever. I need to stop buying him gifts all the time :/.

that sucks :( are you OK with not getting gifts? If you are not a gift type of person that's fine but I would make sure you think about that for the rest of your life the person you're with isn't going to put in an effort to get you even a small gift on important days. You could care after 40 years of watching other people get thoughtful things from their spouses and you getting nothing.

Also I wouldn't spend a DIME on FH if he never got anything for meyet he knew it would mean something. I agree with Katie that it's not tit for tat but me PERSONALLY I believe a woman should never play the role of the man in a relationship. The tone you set in the beginning years of your life together is going to be the way things will go forever. It doesn't change after marriage or with time. Relationships need to flow and be molded early into a relationship that makes both parties happy, other wise people go off and find what really makes them happy later on. So bottom line, if I'm spending money and time and putting thought into making FH happy and he doesn't return the gesture, I'd be doing a lot of thinking.

I know about the tradition but I have no plans of what to get him yet. He does not like boudoir pics (and honestly, I do not have the confidence for it so kudos to the ladies that do). I'm certain he does not know about the tradition but I'll think of something!

I'm going to do a boudoir shoot and make him a book.

This is what Im doing! Never thought it would be something I would try but after meeting with a duo female team I felt like I could do anything and it was only a consultation... I am also doing a grooms cake that I will present at our rehearsal dinner
