Not sure if this question has been asked since it has to do with holidays and all... but,.. How are you and FH planning to split holidays in the future with your parents and in-laws? (or do you split already) are you hotsing everyone at your place or having a marathon holiday? lol
This is hard for us. My family is very close, so they all HAVE to be together. we have the big italian christmas eve celebration at my parents house - but so does his family... The only thing making it easier (this sounds horrible) is that since FH is in FDNY - he works most of the holidays... so we end up doing the marathon holiday type thing! one day at FIL's one day at my parents etc... We ahve to come up with a better situation! I always feel awkward going to his aunt's house (or grandma's etc..) without him... I think I have to get over that though once we are married! lol

Well, I am jewish but my father is Greek. FH is jewish- so the Jewish and xmas holidays are simply- Thanksgiving is hard. I really want to host thanksgiving the first year we are married and etc. I love to cook and be a hostess so, I will have to fight his aunt for this holiday lol. I told his other aunt, she going down!!! ha
Thansgiving i feel if at my place no issue- we invite both sides :D

We split this year and it worked out fine. Thanksgiving we will alternate each year. Christmas Eve my family celebrates and his doesn't, so Xmas Eve at my mom's, and Christmas at his SILs.
Easter we will probably alternate like Thanksgiving.
We would love to host holidays too in the future.

Right now we kinda split - like we will do dinner w/ both of our respective families but then dessert we will go to the another family members hours.
As for when we are married - NO idea. My mom likes to keep saying 'get ready, b/c you are going to be hosting holidays' - ohh yea, where?? b/c right now I live in YOUR HOUSE lol
So I really have no idea what will happen when we are actually married - I have a larger family then FH's so we'll see what happens.
Side Note: Lisa - my family does the BIG Christmas Eve Italian dinner, it's my fav party of the holiday season!!!!

We've been dealing with this issue for a few years now. But end result is everyone treks to my Dad's for thanksgiving and he comes to us for Christmas. Seems to work out well.

It works out for us that FH's parent's celebrate Christmas Eve more than Christmas day so no problems there. Thanksgiving we haven't discussed...maybe take turns or FH and I will host it?

For every holiday we pretty much split the time between my fam and his. His fam tends to do things later in the day which is awesome because my fam does everything early since everyone has somewhere else they need to go after.
The only holiday that is solely spent at FIL's is New Years Eve because they host a party every year at their house and all FH's family comes over and our friends.
As far as eventually having holidays at our place, we won't even consider that until we own our own home - and even then i wouldn't know which holiday to host because everyone's got it covered LOL.
We are doing Superbowl Sunday at our place though - maybe we might make it an annual thing?

thats my fav part too! I can't give that up! lol and we have the big families - so combining both sides would mean about 30+ people at our house!!
Jessie - We are doing superbowl too! thats a good idea about maybe making that an annual thing! I have to bring that up to FH!

For the past couple of years I have been spending most of the holidays (Easter and Thanksgiving for example) with his family because they lived 4 hours from where I was going to grad school. Now my FH and I live in Florida near my family. But we have yet to decide what we will do about Christmas because that is big in both of our families and neither of us really wants to give up that holiday with our family and we dont havea house yet to host it

Re: ~*~*~*QOTD 2/3/10*~*~*~
This year was the first time we split Christmas - the afternoon with his family and evening with mine... and I said never again!! It was beyond crazy and by the time we traveled the 45 minutes to my family's gathering, we were completely exhausted.
We want to rotate but his family doesn't get together that often while mine gets together for all the major holidays and then some... so we'll be playing it by ear.

This has been a tough one.
His family doesn't really do big holidays anymore, so we're usually with my family. I would like to host everyone for some holidays once we're married. It's a little easier for us since we're interfaith. We don't have to fight over Christmas and Easter, but Thanksgivng is tough, as are times when the Passover seders coincide with holy week activities.

FH usually comes to my families house in the morning and then goes to his moms for dinner. I do Christmas Eve for the whole family. It works for now.
