-marriage is like a team sport.... -never go to sleep angry -always say i love you when you get off the phone or after you see each other -have a date night -when you feel life is passing you by and your both so busy, write your spouse a little note to know your thinkging of them etc

My grandpa told us what the priest that married them 61 years ago told them: Right now you have each other on a pedestal. Never look down, becsause when you do you look for faults and flawes. Always keep your eyes looking at each other.
One of my residents just yesterday told me this: never ask for more than what you can give. I liked that.

a coworker once told me that no relationship is ever really 50/50. Sometimes it's 60/40 on your end. sometimes its 70/30 on theirs. You just have to accept this.
and of course my fav quote from parenthood. someone quoted this here once.

I always wanted to go again. You know, it was just so interesting to me that a ride could make me so frightened, so scared, so sick, so excited, and so thrilled all together! Some didn't like it. They went on the merry-go-round. That just goes around. Nothing. I like the roller coaster. You get more out of it.

FIL's recently celebrated their 35th anniversary. Their advice to us was -The first few years are the hardest. That is when you make the least amount of money. -Sometimes you have to swallow your pride. -Keep your ears and your mouth shut (FFIL to FH)

- remember (especially in the beginning) that it's your family now. You need to do whats best for the 2 of you! - Never go to bed angry - Date nights- and romantic weekends even after kids
