My FH asked my mom first, then my cousin that is like a father to me, which was very special to me because he knew the 2 most important persons in my life. My FH went ring shopping with his middle brother and our good friend..and when he proposed everyone knew except me LOL, but it was a beautiful surprise

FH asked my dad the morning of the day he proposed. I actually called my dad and spoke to him while FH was over there!!

I had told FH that I wouldn't say yes unless I knew he had asked my father. I am not necessarily the 'traditional' bride, but I definitely want to keep certain traditions. I also know my father would have been hurt that he didnt get to grill FH. LOL

I think the only people who knew besides FH were his mom (who helped him pick out the ring), my parents, and me. Not that I KNEW, but I had my suspicions. Lol

FH asked my dad a few months before proposing. He also asked my mom since my parents are divorced. When he asked them he took a picture of my mom holding a sign that said 'you' and my dad holding a sign saying 'marry'...his parents held a sign that said 'Will' He incorporated them into asking me to marry him in a book he gave me in Alaska. Everyone knew well before I did!
I went to a concert with my sister, her friend and a few of my girl friends and my sister told ALL of them when I went to the bathroom! This was only 2 days before we left for Alaska. I still can't believe how many people knew before I did

FH didn't ask for permission (no one owns me lol) but he said he was going to do it and wanted my parents blessing. He asked them about 4 days before he asked me.

Let's see...his parents, his brother, my parents and about 5 of his friends knew. We were at his friends house the day before he asked and I was bitchin and moanin about him buying me a ring and his friend later said to him 'she really has no idea!'

My FH also called my father (and mother) to ask for their blessing, not permission. He wanted to ask them in person but we live about 5 hours away from them so it wasn't feasible. Unfortunately when he called my father -- my father, mother and sister were out running errands and in the car. So my sister (now one of my co-MOHs) knew along with my parents.

FH's best friend (and best man) also knew before he did it. But that is it! FH's family didn't even know!

No....I cut off all ties with my 'father' a few years back....he decided he wanted to get a ring, called his mom, and my mom and said I know you know I wanna marry her, will you come to the jeweler on Thursday. He then called my sister to tell her. I had to be up at 5 am Thursday and off to work. I was driving cars for a while ....had a five hour trip there and five hours back. I had the flu, it hit me about four hours into the drive. Called FH crying. Got home and passed out on the couch. My sister and him come back to theories later saying they ran some errands, didn't think twice. The following Saturday it happened. He told a handful of his friends from work and two of our jr. Bridesmaids....and me, who always thought she would for sure know it was coming was completely blindsided

So FH and I went ring shopping and while I was there he did put a deposit on the ring- without my parents knowing- however, we have been together for 9 years and it was expected. Well, not even a few days later I found out my mom had a brain aneurysm and would need surgery in approximately 2 weeks...
I had freaked because my mom is 51 and her mother passed away at 55 because of the same thing, so I told FH that he had to do one thing before my moms surgery and that was tell my parents about the ring and talk to them because I could just never forgive him if my mom didn't make it through surgery and she didn't know about the ring...
So FH that Friday told my parents and they couldn't have been more excited.
For me- I truly feel it is what kept my mom alive and made it through surgery- was knowing I was getting married

1 1/2 weeks later my mom had surgery and was just fine!! :) FH then proposed 1 month later when life settled down!!!!!! :)
It was perfect and i wouldn't have it any other way!!!

A year or two ago my dad told us in reference to someone else we knew that he thought 'asking for permission' was sill and old fashioned and unnecessary, so over the last year when FH and I talked about things more seriously I asked him if he would ask my father or not, knowing how he felt, and explained that it was so not necessary but my dad would probably like it anyway.. He never decided..

So after FH proposed , righ after, I asked, 'so who knows?' And he's like 'we'll I asked your dad for permission'
So there you have it! About 3 days before he had gone to my families house to ask, which means my whole family knew and I think most of his knew too bc he told them also.
