Did you and FH set up a budget? if so, are you strictly sticking to it? do you find it hard to stick to it? did you say screw it lets throw it out the window?

Re: QOTD 6/26
FH and i never really sat down and chose a number. i of course have printed out calndars for the next 2 years and figured out how much i can save per week/per month. i kinda am working off of that. we kind of just know whats outrageous and not in our price range and whats not. although i already have had some days that i started to panic about money

we know what we can spend and what we would like to spend, but so far we havent actually sat down and said ok, this much for this, this much for that.

Re: QOTD 6/26
we have not tracked an official budget but when booking vendors just kinda saw which one gave us the most for our money for a decent price.
I had an overall amount in mind but it def looks like we are going to go over, and i haven't even had all my vendors booked yet!

As the girls as PWP put it we have a 'soft number' and a ceiling. We spent less than we thought we would on the RH, but the extras keep creeping up. I am not sure we'll stay within that range until we book more of the vendors.
The wedding itself is no problem, it's the apartment, house or condo afterwards.

Re: QOTD 6/26
Wedding budget was given by my parents. But if its something I really love then I know they will budge.
As for FH & I he puts me on a weekly budget.....it doesnt work! I spend way too much money. 'Budget' isn't in my vocabulary! But I'm working on it! Because I need to save instead of spend!

We have a budget and conceivably we could stick to it, I hope we can. I used to always think about budgeting for the wedding and I would just feel depressed since we are paying for it by ourselves. There are so many things that we want to do but we just have to focus on what is important to us. But then sometimes I just feel like screw it, it's one day you cannot repeat so why limit yourself...yep so that's my confused spiel about budgets.

I couldn't agree with you more Joanne! I want to own as soon as we can which would mean early twenties but then with the staggering costs of everything especially in NY, I don't think we will be able to own in this state, but that's whole nother' topic!

FH gave me an initial budget, but being that he kept fighting me on all the RH's that i wanted that initial budget went out the window because of the hall we picked, so he gave $5,000 more for the budget, but little does he know its actually going to be about $10,000 more than the initial budget. But we are paying for it all (him more than me) and i am being very good on vendors, i am not overspending and being very budget friendly.

Owning is important to us, but on Long Island? I don't even know... I'll be in my mid-30s and FH in his late 20s when we get married. Hindsight is 20/20 but I never even saw this day coming so I saved enough to get by if say, I was unemployed and I put more than enough money into my retirement fund... but dang, now we've got the wedding and the real estate and I just didn't plan for that.

The 20% downpayment is the toughy! For many homes that's about 80-100,000
edited because I forgot the work downpayment

Re: QOTD 6/26
We set a budget and I think we will more than likely stick to it. We're mostly paying for the wedding ourselves. Our family is giving us money for certain things, but the bulk of it is on us. I hope that my DIY's help out a lot. For every thing on the list, I just have to ask myself, 'Is this realllly neccessary, or could I take this money and put it towards a bedroom/kitchen/dinning set'
I stress out over the budget all the time. Especially this week when I found out that I was not eligible for financial aid...arggg it's always something.

Re: QOTD 6/26
We set an original budget that in a few months grew 5,000 more. Now, we are going to do anything we can to stick to this number. We put a set amount in savings every week and its on an automatic transfer so we dont slack on it. Right after the wedding though, the savings will continue hardcore to save for that down payment!

I wish all we could do is save but FH makes good money but has a bit of debt, gosh. All we can do right now is just continue to make the deposits on our RH. Photog doesn't need anymore money until a month before the wedding. The one good thing is that before we became engaged we had a 'couple fund' for vacations and gifts and as soon as I got the ring I renamed it Wedding Fund. Hopefully by the end of the year he should have everything paid off and then we can really start saving...

We've got a bunch of bills we need pay off too. With each bill, we pay off, we're gonna add a little more to the weekly savings. You'll do it, dont worry!!!!

We set up a budget, and so far we are sticking to it. we may rearrange amounts based on actual prices (photo/video) but we have running room because of things being paid for (dress and Cantor) by others.
Realistically though, not sure where the money for teh budget is coming from, but we have a year and a half to figure that out

Re: QOTD 6/26
Charlie Browns also does catering, I considered that. 22.99 per person, get the entire place.
Sometimes it seems that may have been the better way to go
