Good morning girls... wow I can't believe it's August already! This year is flying and 2014 will be here before we know it.

Today's question has to do with your engagement. We have been engaged for just over 6 months already and I can't believe it!

What were the few days after your engagement like? Did you celebrate with family and friends? How long did it take for your engagement to sink in before you started talking about the wedding and plans?

We got engaged on a Wednesday, and on that Saturday my SIL threw us a nice dinner at her house to celebrate, and that Sunday we went to my grandparents on my side for dinner to celebrate. We had never spoken about actual wedding plans until after we got engaged. We actually booked our first catering hall appointment for the Sunday after we got engaged, before dinner at grandmas! I will never forget, it was that Sunday morning and I was like, 'want to see if we can get an appointment today?' and we ended up going at 12. We ended up booking with them but not until about 2 weeks later after having looked at another hall. About 2 weeks after we got engaged we called the church and we met with the Priest and set our date as well. After that we kind of took a breather with the plans and started doing things little by little.

We also got engaged on a Wednesday. It was March 6th, the day after our 9yr anniversary. We had just gotten to Dallas that day, so FH planned the proposal for that evening. He really wanted to do it on March 5th, but the flights didn't work out that way. I was totally shocked and over the moon after he proposed. After our dinner/gondola ride on the canal, we went to a cigar lounge and I think I was beaming...I must have told just about every guy in the lounge about our engagement and texted the video to all my friends and family. The next day, I was still on the 'engagement high,' so I suggested that we do things I normally don't enjoy, but FH does. We went go-kart racing at Speed Zone, and on some crazy rides (that I normally wouldn't do since I'm scared of heights) that terrified me, and then out for a super romantic vegan dinner at this beautiful hare krishna temple in the city. The excitement lasted for the rest of our vacation. A week later, I joined LIW. As soon as we were back in NY, I started looking for a venue, bought e-ring insurance, and set our date for the wedding. We had never spoken about wedding plans before either. So, I was just winging it--until I joined this site.

FH wanted to propose to me on a Thursday when we went to Newport, but he delayed it to Friday because it rained. We went home on Saturday and had a small party with just our immediate families and I went back to his apartment to stay the night before heading home to my parents' on Sunday.

While we had kind of been planning out some details before we even got engaged, we didn't officially start planning until about 3 months later.

I was stuck in BK with no way out due to Sandy so we weren't really able to celebrate with anyone who wasn't in walking distance lol.

FH proposed to me on March 1st - it was a Friday night and we were in Boston. It was perfect. We got to spend the weekend together alone and we were both on cloud 9. We came back home on Sunday to my family at my parents house were we all celebrated! The following week we went out to dinner with my parents and FH's parents to celebrate with them. My friends had a nice brunch for me to celebrate our engagement also!

About 3 weeks later we went to look at venues and booked right away!

The few days after our engagement were amazing! We got engaged May 26, 2012, which was a Saturday. That night was amazing. We celebrated with each other at a nice dinner and then my dad & stepmom (whom we now have no relationship with) following our dinner at the restaurant bar. The following day was my FFIL and Future Aunt in Laws Birthday party so it was super sweet, his dad made a big announcement and were surrounded by a bunch of our family members and just had a beautiful time. We literally made a venue appointment the following Saturday & Sunday. We went RIGHT into it. It took a while to sink in, but we still went right into planning haha!

Here is our timeline:
5/26/12- Engaged
6/2/12- First RH appointment
6/3/12-Second RH appointment
6/4/12-Booked Church and RH!
6/5/12-Venue Tasting

We went full force right away! We luckily got 2012 pricing for our 2014 wedding which was a perk to getting things done right away.

We got engaged in Disney world so the first few days after FH proposed were beyond amazing! We had so much fun at the food and wine festival and it was so nice to celebrate just the two of us for a little while before we got back to NY. I started brainstorming right away, so I wasted no time in the planning process lol we were booked within two months.

We got engaged the night before the superbowl and the next day went to a party at my cousins house where we had a toast for us. About two weeks later I had dinner with my closest friends. I waited a few weeks before starting to plan because fh requested it.

We got engaged on a Thursday night but I did not believe him until he asked my dad for permission to marry that Sunday.. We kept our engagment a secret from most of our freinds and family for almost a week making sure the important people knew before 'FB world' knew.

We got engaged 3 days before Christmas, so the next few days were great! We got to celebrate with a lot of family and friends for Christmas Eve, Christmas and then New Years! I started planning right away. I'd say I looked at my first RH on December 28th lol. I bought my dress on January 6th!!

We got engaged when we were on vacation, so it was nice just being the two of us for a couple of days. Although I did have to call my mom & dad, grandparents, and cousin (MOH) right away. When we got back, my parent had his parents over for lunch. So it was nice. And about 2 weeks later my aunt had a little something for us at her house during Memorial Day.

It took a little bit to sink in, but I was in such a good mood for at least a month and a half

That night after I got engaged got back to our hotel and called my family and BFF and his parents to tell them the news. I was beaming the entire time during our trip. FH proposed the day after my birthday & planned a special engagement dinner with our families at our favorite restaurant. So we got to celebrate that night. Then next day we were off to disney for 6 nights. It was like a mini honeymoon! A week after we got home Hurricane Sandy hit & the real planning didnt start until January becuase FH was working crazy amounts of OT because he works for conEd.

FH and I got engaged on a family (his) vacation to Italy. So the next few days were kind of strange. I of course was ecstatic and on cloud nine. But I could not get in touch with my family so I felt like I was hiding the biggest secret ever! Also, we didnt want to detract from the family vacation part of it- his grandma had bought the trip for everyone, and Im sure his cousins didnt feel like celebrating our engagement the whole time. But that didnt change the fact that we were sooo happy the whole time!

FH and I got engaged on our first real vacation together - which happened to be in Hawaii. It was absolutely incredible and felt like a dream. I spent the entire next day lounging by the pool staring at my ring because I didn't believe it had happened.

He had already told my parents, grandparents, two cousins and best friend, so not many people were really surprised when I called them at 3AM lol. The most amazing part also happened to be the only part I didn't like as well...being away from home. Since it happened the second day of our vacation, we still had another 7 days to relax and enjoy being engaged before being bombarded with questions, however, I did wish that my parents had been there or that I had seen them sooner. The day after we got back my parents threw us a small BBQ at my house with all of my family and his immediate family. It was awesome! We spent about three months just enjoying being engaged before we started booking things.
