OK ladies, with the holiday season fast approaching I thought I'd touch on that. My coworker just told me yesterday that she started her Christmas shopping already and one of my friends bought her daughters Halloween costume online already! So, as much as we all love summer and its warm weather and sunshine, fall and winter are coming and it feels like it more and more every time you walk into a store.
My QOTD is where do you and your FH celebrate your holidays now and when you are married do you expect they might change or stay the same?

Our holidays are hard. FH works night and part of the weekend so he doesn't get holidays off unless its on his scheduled day off.
Thanksgiving he has to work so I go to my family. Usually his parents have a 2nd one the Sunday after with everyone so we can all go. But normal turkey day I'm on my own.
Christmas is the same, unless it falls on a Sunday or Monday. :( Last year we did Christmas with his family on like the 30th. Christmas happens to be on a Sunday this year so it will be interesting to see where we end up. When we have kids I can see this being a HUGE problem.
Easter he is off since it is a Sunday and this past one we actually did at our house with my family. I offered to have his family as well but his parents said his grandma wouldn't travel (we live about an hour away). So, I am curious to see where we spend Easter next year.
I can see holidays being a fight between us since he doesn't always get them off and would like to spend them with his family when he is off and not always with mine.

Thanksgiving we do dinner with my family , dessert at his family. My family is small and his is huge so we feel like we're needed at dinner haha.
My family is huge on Christmas Eve and his doesn't do anything, so we do Christmas Eve at my family and Christmas at his.
Our families all live in the Islip area so it's really easy. This is one thing that hasn't caused any problems.

FH's parents live in PA which makes it a little tough. We go to PA for Thanksgiving with his parents. Then we do Christmas eve with my family and then Christmas Day dinner with his family and then Easter with mine. I'm sure it will change a little bit when we have kids because I am not dragging my kids all over the place on Christmas!!

We've been alternating Thanksgiving and Christmas. Last year my family got Christmas, this year we'll be doing it at his sisters house. Last year we did Thanksgiving at his moms, and this year we'll do it at my moms. Works out okay.

We split the holidays. We start at my side and then finish the holiday at his side. I don't think much will change. We might have 1 holiday at our house, it really depends on his aunts who host most of the holidays on his side.

We don't celebrate the same holidays so we do the jewish holidays with his family and the Catholic ones with my family..............Easter is usually kind of a bust because my cousins usually go away so no one is around to celebrate with.
Thanksgiving is the only holiday we had to choose so we used to celebrate it separately but when he moved in 2 yrs ago we started hosting it and we end up having the drama of both families together. Its easier that splitting and that way no one can accuse us of not doing our part in hosting something.

Re: ~~QOTD 8/17~~
Our families live on two different coasts (his west, mine east) so its been dependent on where we are living.
The past 2 years when I was in Washington we went to his dad and step-moms house. I would have flown home for Christmas but the military makes you take vacation days EVEN if I would have normally had the day off so I didn't want to waste free days off.
Now that we're living in New Jersey he said he is totally fine on doing the holidays this year at my parents house since we have always done his.
However ,he made the caveat that it won't always be like this and I totally agree. We're really excited to have our 'OWN' family meals, problem is, we KNOW his step-sister will always win and so his dad and stepmom will always be at their house and not ours :( I just feel bad for FH.

ahhh holidays are sooo exhusting! Now that we live together i guess this is how things will be from now until we have a baby and everyone REALLY wants to see us
Thanksgiving - we used to do it separate and i would meet up with him and his fam for dessert. now - we eat two dinners at each families house
Christmas Eve/FMIL Bday - i would go to dinner w/ my family and hewould go out with his mom. NOW we hold Christmas Eve dinner for everyone at our place
Christmas - we would meet up and go to my family's for lunch and gift and then head to his family for dinner NOW early morning at my mom's for brunch and gift with my bro, Sil and neice, then off to my aunts to see the rest of my fam, then dinner at his parents (Christmas is a VERY long day!)
Easter- in the past i would sleep over at his house we would egg hunt and then i would head to my family and then back to his house for dessert NOW my mom's for lunch and dessert and then off to his house. HOWEVER this past easter FIL's had Easter on sat. cause they were leaving on vaca that sunday so it worked perfect!
luckily my family is a bunch of early birds and his family wakes up and starts there holidays later in the day so it magically works out

The only common holiday we have is Thanksgiving and we generally spend it with my family.
All jewish holidays we spend with his family.
All catholic holidays with mine.

Re: ~~QOTD 8/17~~
it's pretty easy since my family lives in FL mostly. FH's family is on LI, so we are doing Thanksgiving there this year and (since we are Jewish) Chanukah too. In the future, we may travel to my aunt's house in CT for Thanksgiving like I used to in the past.
FH's bday is on Christmas Day, so we will be at his parents house then too. Way too much eating in a one week period, I say!

Re: ~~QOTD 8/17~~
We spend Thanksgiving with his sister and her in-laws and then spend the weekend with my parents who usually come into the city.
We spend Christmas at my parents house in Maine. Before Christmas we go to Boston to see his sister and her family and we also do a little Christmas with his other sister and her husband.
All other holidays we just spend together, quietly. It's usually too much to travel for just a day. His parents are in Vegas and Florida and mine are in Maine, so while we go and visit when we can, it's not usually for a holiday.

FH and I try to alternate each year. For example we do thanksgiving dinner at his families, then desert at mine one year. Then the next year we have dinner at my families and desert at his. Also, if thanksgiving dinner is at his families that year we have christmas dinner at my families. This way no one feels slighted. It has worked out pretty well thus far!!!

Luckily we come from flexible families that do not live that far. We look at what times parties start and try to stop at both each holiday. It wouldn't work for everybody but it works for us.

Christmas Eve we do with his family, usually at our apt. also and Christmas day we go to my uncles which I have been doing since i was born! So grateful that FH was ok with that!

Re: ~~QOTD 8/17~~
We celebrate the holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas alone. I cook just for us and never invite anyone over. I feel that I am still in my practicing stages when it comes to timing when the food will be ready so I would hate to have starving people depending on me. Sometimes after dinner we will visit other people. I don't really see this changing until maybe we have kids and then maybe do something with my friends.

Re: ~~QOTD 8/17~~
FH and I actually split the holidays up equally.
On Thanksgiving - we have dinner with his family first (they eat earlier) and then meet my family for dinner after.
Christmas Eve - we spend at his grandparent's
Christmas Day - we open presents with his family & have breakfast & then go by my parent's house for dinner
New Years Day - His grandparents
Easter - eat with his family first & then go out to dinner with mine
Mother's Day - Breakfast with his mom & dinner with mine.
Father's Day - Breakfast with his dad & then dinner with mine. His parents also usually do a BBQ around this time of year so we make sure we're there for that.
I don't think any of this will change once we're married except that I might take a holiday or two and have it by us instead!
