QOTD - August 1, 2014

Happy Friday! I should have started my week with this question since Monday was a year since our engagement, but I will end my reign with this one instead. It’s another one that I’m sure has been posted before, but I bet there are a few girls that haven’t shared their story yet (including me ).

How did your fiancé propose? Was it a shock or did you see it coming?

When Conner proposed last year I had been on the edge of my seat for a while. . . I expected it to happen shortly after we moved in together, but it didn’t happen until over a year later. I had started to get anxious about it, especially when people kept asking “When are you two getting married?”

Of course in the long run I was so happy when it happened and (mostly) glad that he waited. He eventually told me that he bought my ring in March last year, around the time that we were planning a vacation to Rhode Island in July so he decided he wanted to wait until then. We went to the Newport Folk Festival for the first time and it was amazing. I would have already been perfectly happy with the weekend so getting engaged was an incredible way to end it. We got there on a Friday and he proposed Monday so he kept the ring in the trunk of the car the whole weekend! I have a few photos in one of my albums

I nominated terrylovesroy to be up next. I enjoyed being BOTW! Thanks everyone for participating!

I was shocked, but knew it was coming at the same time. We had been together just under 5 years when we went looking for rings and I knew that he had gotten a ring but I didnt know when it was coming. He totally surprised me!

We were at home watching football in our sweats on a Sunday (FH and I are big sports ppl, and FH has 12 fantasy football teams - extreme I know!) and he said to me 'if jimmy graham scores 20 points in fantasy today Ill propose. I actually told him he was lying becuase that wasnt an uncommon thing to do. Well about 30 seconds into the 3rd quarter - Jimmy graham hit 20 pts and my Jimmy went into the other room and came back with a ring box. I actually said, Oh sh*t you weren't kidding.. and then he got down on his knee in our living room and proposed!

QOTD - August 1, 2014

I wish I was surprised but I felt it coming. My first clue was money from our checking account being taken out (I am in charge of the finances so I asked him about it and he made something up- he is a terrible liar). My second clue was my dad accidentally letting something slip when he thought I wasn't around. My last clue was FH dressing nice to take me out to dinner. We went out to dinner for an early anniversary celebration and I started crying because I knew it would happen at some point in the night. (I was so nervous and felt so sick that I just wanted to leave haha). After dinner we went to my grandmas house for her 75th birthday celebration and before we went in, he stopped in the place where we had our first kiss (in front of her driveway) and proposed. Since my whole family was there for my gmas birthday, they were peeking from behind the blinds haha.

QOTD - August 1, 2014

It was a total surprise!

He had said 'if we had to spend the money on taking down the wall between the 2 bedrooms or a ring for you, what would you choose?' Me, I said 'I think the walls.' lol! we had talked about it since we moved into the house, so I thought it would be the way to go.

It was Presidents Day of this year. We had come back from dinner at his parents and I was about to go stuff my face with some Valentines day chocolate. And he calls from his office, 'Hun, can you open this drawer for me? I'm having trouble.' LOL, here I'm thinking 'what's his end game? Really, you can't open a drawer?'

I go to his office and he says 'open it.' And there was a bag, with the ring box. I remember saying 'Oh my god, what did you get me?'.

Complete surprise!!

it's funny that i didnt question why my grandfather was over my house (he lives in staten island), but he had been going through treatments for lung cancer at the time. My fiance had come over and wanted to go see the Long Beach boardwalk since it happened to recently reopen after Sandy.

He kept pushing me to leave and i actually got annoyed at him for rushing me when my grandfather was over.

I had my mind set that we werent going to get engaged until this summer.

we parked the car and i didnt know until after the fact that i was walking on the side of my fiance where he had the ring in his pocket. i also brought up the flash mob proposals that i had recently watched on youtube - he was sweating bullets!

we were standing watching the trapeze that was right off the boardwalk when he got on one knee. i looked at him like 'what the heck are you doing' and actually backed away from him. Inseat of saying 'yes,' i balled my eyes out and asked if he talked to my dad about this.

then he tells me he made a special reservation - which i was obviously not ready for. i had just taken a shower, my hair was wet and up in a messy bun and i was in yoga pants!

we got to the restaurant and both of our immediate families were there to celebrate and have dinner with us.

Apparently my family had known for 2 weeks and my sister went with him to pick out the ring!

ive never cried so many happy tears in my life!

I thought he was going to propose last year on my birthday, but he did it the day AFTER to really surprise me. He proposed to me at my job, before we opened. My boss and co-workers were all in on it and he had a sign made up that said Will You Marry Me? ..I had NO idea he would do it there.

I knew he was going to propose soon but I just didn't know what day. We went on vacation to Costa Rica and I swore he would do it out there but he didn't, so everytime he took me out after that I was expecting it except for the day he actually did it! We were just hanging around & he randomly said 'wanna go to the pier?' so I said okay & we went. It was very spontaenous so I didn't think he had anything up his sleeve. The pier was in long island city & had a beautiful view of NYC. Once the sun was setting he started telling me how much he loves me (which he always does) but then he got on one knee. I started freaking out I couldn't believe he was doing it! I started crying & ofcourse said yes! I was calling my parents & sisters but no one was answering so he suggested we just go to my house. Once we got there my entire family was waiting for us with food & champagne to celebrate. Everyone knew it was happening except for me.

I knew it was coming because we looked at rings, but I thought it would be six months or more later. I got to his house after he told me we had to go to his aunts 50th birthday dinner in Huntington that night. So I walk to the front door and there was a letter on the door for me and I thought 'OH MY GOD THIS IS IT!!!!!' It said a whole cute thing about walk through our memories together and your future will be waiting at the end.' So I walk in the house and there's a trail of candles and rose petals through the whole house with pictures hanging from when we met in 7th grade up until the weekend before :) then he was outside in a heart of candles with rose petals and twinkly lights waiting for me :) he had his sister hiding behind the house taking pictures the whole time too. It was just so perfect and magical and the most romantic thing ever!!! I can't believe he thought of it all on his own!! Pics in my album :)

I was totally surprised!!!!! We went on New Years Day to see the tree with another couple. I thought we were just going to see the tree, do a little sight seeing, dinner and call it a night. So not the case. After seeing the tree he had suggested for us to go to the Top of the Rock. All my years living in NY I have never been so I thought it would be exciting. When we get there I went crazy taking pictures of my girlfriend and her husband, the view of the city, etc. My girlfriend wanted to take a pic of me and my boyfriend at the time with her phone, not realizing she was recording the proposal on her phone. It was so sweet and I love the fact that I can watch the video over and over on the day he proposed. So I started the New Year with a proposal and received a rock On Top of the Rock :)

QOTD - August 1, 2014

Mine was a complete surprise! I wasn't expecting it but I was hoping that he would do it when we went to Atlantic City for his birthday this past May. However, on Easter Sunday this year we started the morning like we always do, with an egg hunt (because my parents want to keep the tradition alive for as long as possible). The whole time my dad kept joking and telling us one egg had a $100 bill inside of it. As we were emptying out the candy into the bowl, I realized I had the last egg. My dad said nobody found the $100 yet, and I said wait I have the last egg and I started shaking it lightly to pretend there was money in it. I then opened it to find a cotton ball to pop out and I was like *** is this?! And then I looked into the bowl and saw a ring with the candy. I started crying and he got down on one knee.

Apparently my whole family and my best friend had known for weeks!!

QOTD - August 1, 2014

I knew it was coming, but totally surprised when it happened.

We had looked at rings last Memorial Day weekend and we saw what I liked and what he liked. Then around Thanksgiving I know he asked my mom and my uncle for permission and advice. So once I found that out I thought it was happening right away. We planned a big brunch for my birthday in January and I was so convinced it was happening the morning of my birthday (so convinced I couldn't even sleep the night before). Well it didn't happen. Apparently I wasn't the only one convinced because all my friends thought it was happening too!

I gave up wondering when it would happen. Then one random Tuesday, I came home from work in a particularly bad mood. But the house was clean and Billy was cooking (which wasn't abnormal for Tuesdays - it is always our Tuesday Steak night!). I went to wash my hands and I walked into the kitchen to see how long dinner would take and there he was on one knee! I had no idea it was happening that night! The second best part was that he had called my best friend the night before and they planned for her to come over after to celebrate. So after all our calls, the doorbell rang and there was my best friend with champagne and wedding magazines. It was amazing!

We never did get to eat the steak - we were both too excited :)

QOTD - August 1, 2014

A few weeks before the proposal I saw a text message I shouldn't have seen saying a date that he was going to propose. He questioned me about it after realizing that text was still on his phone so he knew that I had seen it. It was supposed to happen a week after it actually happened.

I was completely shocked the day it did happen. It was the day after Thanksgiving so because I was off from work, I babysat the kids I babysit over the summer. FH said he was going to the gym and then would come to the house to play with the kids (he was actually with his cousin picking up the ring). He came to the house with the ring in his pocket the whole time and played with the kids. His cousin then called me and made up a whole story about being in Queens and asked if she could come to our apt to hang out for a little while with her 2 daughters (our flower girls). We got home and a few mins later there was a flower delivery for me which I came to find out were delivered too early (he made up a story about it being flowers for Thanksgiving and I totally bought it). After his cousin was there for about an hour, she asked her girls if they wanted to give me the card they made me. So, I was sitting on the couch completely clueless and they come over with a card and a ring box. I opened the box and it was empty so I opened the card and it said 'Will you marry me?' and FH was standing in front of me with the ring. I immediately started crying and he got down on one knee and proposed. He had 'I Choose You' by Sara Bareillas playing in the background.

It was perfect because I had said I wanted something personal and intimate. I loved that he used the two girls because they are my little loves and it was so special that they were a part of it.

The funniest part of the whole day was that I had agreed to sub on my Uncle's bowling team that night a few weeks before so here I am engaged for only a few hours bowling with my Uncle. Everyone was like, you just got engaged and are here? I couldn't cancel on my Uncle last minute.

It was a surprise... Kind of. I hate surprises and FH is bad at keeping secrets so I thought for sure I would know when it was coming; however, he knows me better than anyone. Here come the dates, to EVERYWHERE!! In a two week span we went to the city three times, four different restaurants and even to a theatre. The summer before same thing. Finally on 12/17/13 we went into the city(I was texting my MOH the whole time 'I can't believe it's not happening tonight either) and in the middle of a snowstorm we went to the Top of The Rock. We've been to the Empire State Building previously so this was not an indication of a proposal. We walked around and after going back outside to an empty observation deck, he popped the question. It didn't seem real until I heard 'will you...' And saw the ring... It was an amazing moment, such a large busy city, and it was just the two of us.
