QOTD Friday May 14, 2010

As it gets closer I feel like I have started getting more and more tidbits of marriage advice! How about you?!

What is the one tidbit of marriage advice you have gotten that you think you will really follow?

My parents have always said that you have to make time for each other, even when and espeically when you have kids. The made it a point to go away alone even if it was for a night or 2 a year, so they could appreciate and enjoy each other and not lose sight of where it all started! Now that we are all grown up, they do so many things together, vacations, golf, etc. and enough stuff apart to keep them sane also! I definitely think one key that a strong am happy family is a strong and happy marriage to keep it all together!

-Never going to bed angry
-Always putting each other first
-Continuing to date each other (Having the date night at least once a month, especially after the kiddies)

No one has given me any advice since this is my second time around. BUT I can give you some advice.....definitely have a date night. It is very easy to get wrapped up in kids and life and forget about each other. Talk everything out....don't just hold it in, it really builds up resentments and eventually it will all blow up. Trust your gut....if you feel like something is just not right than it probably is not!!

'dont do it' and 'run while you can'........

WE haven't gotten very much advice. But FFIL gave FH the best advice ever:

FFIL: You're starting a new family in becoming husband and wife be sure to make time for each other and concentrate on making that family strong.

Be quick to forgive

...I think the longer you hold on to issues the worse they fester and the more damage they do the whole relationship. No matter what it is, I'm praying that I will be able to forgive quickly and then work through the issue.
