QOTD: How do you feel about destination weddings?

I think they are lovely- in theory. In reality, there is NO WAY I could commit to going to one unless it was for one of my siblings. Thats a whole lot of $$$!

I still wish I would have done it

We're going to my cousin's in January. My entire family is going. It's our 'honeymoon'.

If I had it to do all over again, I would have had one.

Well said. It's a huge imposition on the guests.

Id do one and have a BBQ reception or something in a backyard. Seriously. This has been a wild ride!

I too would only go if it was someone really close to me. I can understand the carribean, but could you imagine hawaii? The airfare alone is bocu $$$. I wanted to do it, but I really wanted my grandparents/family there.

it's funny, a few of my close friends/family who are thinking about getting married have seriously considered a more low key affair thanks to me & my crazy wedding!

i think it's an awesome idea, and the people getting married will not expect everyone to be able to make it. they usually do this because they want it to be more intimate anyway. it would probably be really difficult to a wedding so far away, but i'd LOVE to be invited to one. FH's family is all around here and realstically our grandparents and some other people wouldn't be able to come, and we really wanted everyone there. my family has to travel just to get here so as long as their flying it wouldn't have mattered where...

i hope one of my friends winds up doing it though!!

If I (G*D forbid) ever did it again, that's what I would do.

If I ever get married again, i would have a very low key wedding or a destination wedding with a few of may close freinds and family. I would never have a big weddingl ike I did...

I really hope someone I know has one. I'd love to attend a destination wedding.

As I see it, most people go on vacation every year, so I would just count it as a vacation.

Me too! Although I did see a DW while on my HM on the beach of my resort and while it was lovely, it was so brief and the ceremony lacked the 'closeness' that one at a church or at a hall surrunded by people has.

unless it was a close friend or family, I don't think I would go. then again, folks who have destination weddings typically only invite close friends & family.

I'm going to one in Puerto Rico next month - FHs cousin is getting married.
While a lot of the family it going and they are happy for her about the wedding, they aren't too thrilled with having to travel for it. It's really SO much money to spend.

I agree! As it is my family does not have a lot of money and it'll be tough for them to afford three days at a hotel to come down to LI for my wedding....so I'm feeling crappy enough...I cannot imagine asking them to travel farther then this for my wedding.

Re: QOTD: How do you feel about destination weddings?

We were going to do it but at the very end did not do it cause my parents and brothers have dogs and they did not want to leave the dogs. plus my dad has a business and one of my brothers would have had to stay home.. So i just felt it was not going to work out.. I guess it was not meant to be. Plus my whole life I wanted to have a real big wedding... I guess that was meant to be... I said for our 1st year anni.. we will go away and have every one join..
