First & foremost - thanks to Croatianbride for giving me a turn at BOTW!
Now my question:
Times have definitely changed from the 50's, 60's & 70's where most women stayed home, had children in their 20's & didn't have to worry about working. These days most women I know, who are in their 30's, work a full time job and haven't had babies yet or the ones that do have kids - work... Between cost of living & women's independence -
Ladies, tell me what are your thoughts are & do you plan on working/keeping your career after you have kids?

I would still have to work. We love to travel and we love nice things. It's easy for me to continue working because I love my job and enjoy working. I have been with my company for 18 years. i have it a little easy when i have kids because my sister and dad are willing to help me babysit while I work.

to answer my question: I would love to stay home & raise my kids but between our mortgage & bills it just seems impossible. unless FH gets a second job which doesn't seem fair.
Plus I do love working. I just wish my hours were more flexible.

Honestly, FH and I have very limited options when it comes to babysitting... my mom passed away, dad's living in Croatia and his parents are much older and can't handle even close to 5 days a week. So plan as of now is for me to stay home and raise our kids, possibly even start an internet based business or something I can run from home. The idea of a nanny or day care is 100% out, I personally wouldn't feel comfortable with either option.

Well, if I land a job one of these days.....I definitely plan on working. If I can develop my own design business, I'd love to work on my own or consult part time for a firm, so one of us can be home sometimes and balance day care/ grandma babysitting/ and mom and dad time

so sorry for your loss... i lost my mom too..........
I feel the same as you. we live far away from all of our family. but one of the good things about fh's job is that he could schedule his time around mine and we could have him home during the day and me home at night. i refuse to leave my child with a stranger.

I plan on looking for a job in my field right after the wedding that will finally be my 'career' and I don't want to not work when we have kids (which won't be for a few years, for sure!!) Our parents can watch our kids maybe 1-2 days each per week, and the rest will probably be day care. My niece goes to an amazing day care, and IMO kids need to socialize with other kids.

I'm kind of already a stay-at-home-dog-mom. I have my own lia sophia business that I do on my own time... I think it's great if a couple can afford to have one parent home with the children, but it's fantastic if both are working and sharing responsibilities too..... PS: I seriously believe that single working mothers are super heroes!!

THIS
ill probably have to work. im a lawyer so im hoping that if im blessed enough to have children of my own, i'd like to work maybe 3 days a week for a little while or even just wrking from home would be a better option to take off the babysitting time
my mom and my FMIL both work full time so if i have a baby any time soon, there will be no babysitters!

I would love nothing more than to be able to stay home full time with my kids, at least while they are babies or until school age.
Unfortunately, like so many others, there's no way we will be able to survive on just one salary. Right now I'm taking the steps for the future to be able to teach full time on a schedule that will allow me to teach in the evenings so I can be home during the day and FH is home at night. That's my plan at least...we'll see!

Re: **QOTD Monday September 19, 2011**
I have a beautiful 2 year old son and when he was first born i worked full time days with weekends and FH worked as a chef with nights and weekends and my grandma watched Braydon a few hours a week when needed which was great because he was with someone i completely trusted
Sadly as many of you know my grandma got diagnosised with pancreatic cancer in febuary and passed in june and that whoel time he was with different people, a friends daughter, my sister i would take off my husband would take off it was a nightmare...then summer my mom is a school nurse and she was off
Well after 6 months of his routine being changed daily he has been a completely monster, total 360 in behavior, happiness everything so i quit my job and i start this week doing part time medical building
I always wanted to have both worlds work as well as be a mom but sometimes life doesnt work out that way...its also extremely hard with fh and i working different hours all the time, we rarely see each other and even the little disagree blows up because everything builds up to find time to talk about things

I have 3 girls and I have always worked. I had my first when I was 17 and my mom helped me out so I can finish school and work at the same time. My husband and I have 2 girls together, one is 4 and the baby will turn 2 in December. Wish I could stay home and take care of them but between bills and school tuition for the kids, it's barely impossible. I guess I will be working until I retire...

I DREAM of being a stay at home Mommy but I just don't see how..I have a degree in English and am thinking about teaching college classes at night and I am also in the process of writting a book! I would love to find freelance editing work and hopefully all of that combined with FH corporate job we can do it..we'll see.

I will either be working part time or be a stay at home mom. FH will hopefully be getting another promotion within the next year, so that will enable me to be able to stay home if he does get it. If not then I will work part time.

I've been writing a book too, that would be my dream to become a published author Although the book got put on a MAJOR hold once I got engaged & started wedding planning

If i was able to afford to stay home with my kids i would deinfitly want to. I unfortunitly do not think that would be a option for FH and i though. I am lucky however, that i have a job i onyl work 3 days a week, (granted it is 13 hour days) i still have off 4 days of the week.

iw ould love to be able to be home with the kids while they are little until they hit school age and i could find something part time. my MIL could easily watch the kids, but she also watches both of SIL's kids and one SIl has 3 kids, 8 and twin 6 year olds and the other SIL has a 2 yr old. The three older kids are don't listen to anyone, scream, throw tantrums and are overall, extremely rambuctious. I would rather not have my child(ren) raised with this because it would completely undermine what i am trying to teach them.
