QOTD - OK, given the recent attention to Trump and Star, if you could have wedding stuff sponsored in exchange for control over your day would you?
Example, if your e-ring could be huge and sponsored or modest but FI picked out and paid for it, which would you choose. Or if you could have the event anywhere in exchange for it being publicized all over, which would you choose? Here is Donald Trump's son 'proposing' with a sponsored ring--do you think it means less?

Really, question is about value of controlling the planning of your day vs. getting stuff given to you.

You changed the question after I answered. I would think I would still have some say and control. I would go for it. If it was payed for I would have more money for a house down payment.Kim

Sorry Deb--I would definitely not give up the opportunity to plan my own wedding. Having a sponsor dictate who, what, where, when and how would not be my dream wedding!

To clarify, the question is about whether it is worth giving up the privacy and intimacy of the evnet, and for that matter control, to have a bigger affair.

If I had to give up control, I'd pass. I'm a bit of a control freak (the lawyer in me I guess) and I would be unhappy if the wedding wasn't reflective of me and FH, just the corporate sponsors.

It would be nice to have some things bigger and better and fun to have it planned somedays, but I'd have to say no. In the end its our day and having all those cameras and not having us reflected would be a little sad for me. I like the fact a lot of things are being homemade, and the wedding has a smaller scale than those grand ones. Although, no doubt, trista rehns flowers were to die for!

I hate any sort of attention(unless work related- I love publice speaking) so I would hate the publicity. I am also the sort of person who prefers to work towards something than have it handed to me. I would much rather have a more modest ring and have it be paid for and given to me by my FH. That engagement you posted by Trump jr. looked so cheesy and false. I don't care how big her ring is!

I think it's a matter of scale - I just couldnt spend that much money on one day - I still can't believe how much FH and I (and my very generous parents) are spending for our wedding. If I got everything paid for, that would be great - but there was something just so indulgent about Trista and Ryan's wedding - 50,000 dollar shoes??? i mean, come on. I'd love it if someone decided to pay for our wedding - but I'd rather have the corporate sponsors pay for a modest wedding and then make a huge donation to a charity.

i would never relinquish control for a bigger bash.i think both of these peeps are totally tacky and emphasize everything that is wrong with this country - 'bigger is better!!!' ugh.
the sentimental facet of things i so much more important than the material to me.

It's also VERY tacky. This new trend is emphasizing the materialism of today's world. It's not supposed to be about showing off how much money can be doled out, no matter who pays for it it's about the GENUINE love between two people.
The pictures of Trump remind me what happened recently to a co-worker. Her son (22 years old... has nothing) proposed to his very rich girlfriend (his parents are very comfortable but her family is really big in Philly) with his great grandmother's beautiful 1 carat ring. The bride and her mother went out the next day and bought a 4 carat emerald cut CZ!! What does that tell you? For some people it's all about impressing others. My poor friend is beside herself over this situation.

Nah, I'd pass. I would love to have a big fancy wedding, but not if I had to give up control. I'm a little obsessive that way.
