QOTD: Voting

QOTD: Voting

Do you think people should vote regardless of how much they know about the candidates? For example, if someone hasn't educated themselves on which candidate they would prefer, should they still vote for a party?

Discuss.

Unfortunatly I think a lot of people vote with out knowing anything / much about 'their' canidate to begin with!

I think that everyone who is eligible should be able to vote.. but it is it is a persons duty to be make an educated decsion

I agree. I dont understand though how someone can make such an important decision without knowing facts. I think the sad reality is that they think there vote doesnt matter and they dont take it seriously. I am very much into this election as I've watched most of the debates and I'm always watching MSNBC

I agree and honestly I think it is a damn shame that the media puts so much emphisis on other bull......it, so I do think it is important to educate ourselves.

I feel that if ur going to vote for someone you should know what they stand for and all that good stuff.... but unfortunately i dont think a lot of people do know much about who they are voting for. Like they will vote for person X because they do not like person Y.

Or an approach i am seeing more and more is people saying they do not like person X or Y and they are not going to vote at all. I feel that if u do not vote, than dont come b*tchin to me that you do not like where our nation is going. JMO

My father yells at me all the time b/c I DON'T vote purely b/c I know nothing about any of the candidates! He told me that this year, once my name is changed and all, I need to start voting! I am considering it

Re: QOTD: Voting

this is the reason i do not vote....i dont know anything about politics or politicians - i do know that for the most part i disagree with republican views on a lot of issues but thats about all i know im laughing but its kind of sad that i dont get into it...i dont know, i told FH maybe this year i would register and vote but id have to do some research first

i wonder who is going to win - FH were talking about it last night - that by the time of the wedding we'll know who the next president is going to be!

Re: QOTD: Voting

Voting is something that I feel a lot of passion for and I have to apologize in advance, because I am probably gonna get on my soapbox for this one

I not only think its my right to vote, its my civic duty- and that means educating myself on the best candidate as well as going out to vote

I guess I feel so strongly about this since women havent always had the right to vote & our ancestors faught so hard to get us that right.

If you dont vote the don't complain about what is going on- voting is letting them know you are not happy with things going on- this year there is so much about the election out there everyone should know about them all by election day and make a your own choice-

Re: QOTD: Voting

My name is Valerie and I am a political junkie (I actually TiVo C-SPAN) so sorry if this is long.

While in a perfect world (to me), everyone would vote and be totally involved, I think ANY participation is important. Partially because it can (hopefully) lead to more and more participation (like learning more about the issues and working on campaigns).

I've registered thousands of people to vote and even if they didn't vote, I was thrilled that they were at least registered. (18-25 year olds are the least represented group so just having more registrants in that demographic will make politicians think more about helping them, etc, etc.).

People actually voting is of course REALLY important and there isn't a career or life out there that isn't directly influenced by the laws made by our elected officials. Even for personal reasons like if you have a family member with a disability or are a small business owner, teacher, or doctor, your vote can dramatically change your day to day life. If you don't have the time to learn about EVERY elected official out there, then choosing a party to be affiliated with is a good way to figure out who will represent your interest.

AND IF YOU LIVE IN THE 14th ASSEMBLY DISTRICT AND WANT TO WORK ON AN AWESOME POLITICAL CAMPAIGN, LET ME KNOW!!!!
