Re: QOTD - What do you have planned to make your ceremony unique?
1. Leaving my mom's seat empty and placing a flower from my bouquet in a vase on her seat in rembrance of her.
2. Walking myself down the aisle... although my Dad got a bit upset about this. Honestly, he walks VERY slowly with a cane and I'd be walking him down the aisle. It might sound horrible but for one day I don't want to have to care for him. Plus if he falls on my dress or veil... we might have a broken hip
3. I'm not walking down the aisle to one of the traditional pieces of music
4. We are NOT doing a unity candle but the blessing of the hands.
5. I am making fans for my guests as the ceremony is planned for outdoors at 11 am on July 4th.
6. We do not have ushers (only MOH and BM) and I want my family to have the aisle seats because I have something up my sleeve so I am making signs with certain peoples names for the seats.
Can't think of anything else right now.

not much yet. I do want the priest to recite the 'hand ceremony' though. I think that is a nice little touch.

Hmm.. I think getting married in two churches is unique enough- LOL
We are having a Catholic ceremony first then a Greek Orthodox ceremony.

Writing our own vows; that's about it!

Re: QOTD - What do you have planned to make your ceremony unique?
- We are using a kiddish cup that belonged to at least my dad's grandparents. We also bought a new one and are using two cups- one to represent the past, the other to represent the future
- we are writing letters to our cantor. He will take excerpts from those letters to write our ceremony. It's a way of writing our vows in a way, but it allows him to talk of us as if he knows us- and get candid information we would not otherwise say if we were just reciting vows
- I am using the the tallis that my father used on his bar mitzvah day for one of the jewish rituals
Um, is that it? I guess so-- it's only going to be 20 mins long- woo hoo!!

Im doing some customs that are done in my parents native country. One tradition is a lasso that is placed around the shoulders of the couple to symbolize the unity of one, the strong bonds of love, and eternal (circle) love. The second tradition is the passing on of coins. The groom give his bride coins to symbolize that he gives all his possesions to her. My mom still has her coins that my father gave her so she will be passing them down to my FH to give to me. Thats about it.

Oh actually we are doing this too! But I think we are going to be using the one that belongs to FH's parents or the one that FH used for his Bar Mitzvah.

Re: QOTD - What do you have planned to make your ceremony unique?
We're going to include some information in the program about the church we're getting married in - when it was built, by whom, etc. We're also going to list the people we know who were married in the church with something like 'We're so happy to be be married in the place where so many happy unions began.'
We're getting married on December 3rd which is the feast day of Saint Francis Xavier. . . this was a surprise to me. My grandfather is named after Saint Francis - He's Francis Xavier O'Leary. . . so we'll include a little information about the feast day and who the saint was, and then include that we're honored to be married on his feast day.
My grandfather is still living but I dont know that he and my grandmother will make it to the wedding - they are both 92 and live in Boston and they don't travel well - but my fingers are crossed.

We are having a rose ceremony where our officiant will present us with our first wedding gift, two red roses. We will then in turn give our roses to each other, making them our first gifts as husband and wife. I thought it sounded romantic.

our Navy chaplain does this bit which is unique to him and his style, for every couple he marries, he talks about celebration and then gives us a bottle of wine to share on our first anniversary (which sounds better to me than stale cake) and makes some correlation in his speech. its different but i guess the same for all the couples he marries.

Re: QOTD - What do you have planned to make your ceremony unique?
Not too much so far - I have no original ideas - I have to think too much at work!! I get a lot of ideas from all of you lovely ladies.
...I have been thinking about putting a section in the back of the program that is sort of like a 'cast of characters.' It will include the bridal party and their relationship to use, how we met them, etc....Sounds awful, but I thought guests would like it since they have to sit through a long catholic mass - they might get bored, I know I do! Also a page that has a list of events that happened 'On this Day...' I still have to research that - hopefully something happened that day!!
...I want to 'reserve' specific seats at the reception for my parents and my FH's dad so they get a good seat at their table facing the dance floor.
...We plan on naming our tables after long island towns out east. At least that's what we hope to do. The placecard table will have an antique map if LI on it and at each table, there will be a frame with the table name and a picture of us at the 'Welcome to East Hampton' sign. A little ambitious to do for each town, since I am having 18-20 tables, but we'll see...
...I am thinking about having my flower girl hand out long stem roses to the people at the end of the pews instead of rose petals....And plan on decorating a Little Red Wagon with tulle if my youngest cousin will not be able to walk down the aisle (she'll be 16 months at the wedding).
Can't wait to hear everyone else's special touches.
