Ques. regarding the 'fake ring' sets mentioned in another thread...

OK I don't want to get the controversy started again lol but I was wondering, when you buy a silver 'fake', does it tarnish easily? I've had silver jewelry tarnish badly in the past, and I wouldn't want to have to deal with polishing jewelry with a stone in it... this is probably gonna make or break my decision as to whether to get a fake set...

TIA!

real silver wont tarnish badly if you wear it often.

FH bought me a cladagh ring years ago and never gave it back to me after he exchanged the size...well, about 4 years later- he found it and it was all goldish and tarnished

i wore it for a few days and it turned silver again

i was planning on wearing my band only, but decided to get a silver one b/c i would be devastated if i lost it.

I'm not planning on getting one, but, IF I were, I'd get white gold and CZ's. They have some pretty inexpensive sets out there! This way you wont have to worry about tarnish.

For example, this is a set from QVC, and its fake diamonds but 14k. I dont think thats a bad price.'fake' ring

Thanks ladies... yea, the only reason I wouldn't pay to get white gold is that the ONLY time i will ever wear it is for the 2 weeks on my honeymoon. If I do decide to get a fake, I am going to be a major scrooge and spend as little as possible just to have something to wear on my left hand lol.

Having said that, I might not even get a fake at all. I'm still deciding. If I happen to come across something in a store, I might get it...if not, oh well!

you can get some realy nice, wedding band looking right hand rings

as for silver, penneys and macys have some for like $20-$30 bucks.. for the a[price, if i had to buy a new one every few years when i go on vacation- its not so bad..thats if it did tarnish i mean

Be careful - silver tarnishes and leaves marks on skin when in certain chemicals (pool) or salt water.

I went to Kay V-day weekend and got a white gold and tiny, tiny diamond ring....it was on sale for $39....I wore that!

i wasn't gonna get a fake set either but even Tho my ring isn't extravagant I'd be really upset if it came off in the water or lost it in the sand or god forbid someone broke into my room while we are away!!

Hm... I'm afraid of the ocean, so maybe thats why I'm not too afraid to wear it... but better to be safe than sorry I guess!!

i'm not getting a fake ering...i don't need to wear an ering, real or fake, if i'm going to the beach, or camping, white water rafting, etc. on the other hand, i feel like i should ALWAYS wear my wedding band.

so, i will get a silver 'alternate' wedding band because my wedding band (and ering) hold more emotional than financial value, and i'd rather not loose them.
i still plan on wearing my set everyday, but a few days a year i will wear the silver band, and no ering.

FH isn't crazy about the idea, but if he chooses an expensive wedding band, i'm gonna make him get a fake also.
for my lifestyle, it's common sense. if you never go swimming or camping or hiking, then you might not need an alternate.

my 2c.

Re: Ques. regarding the 'fake ring' sets mentioned in another thread...

funny story, imo:
last year on our rafting trip, a guy that had been married for 2 weeks lost his platinum and diamond ring in the rapids. it just slipped right off of his cold, wet finger...he ran back and dug around underwater for a while, no ring, of course....
his new wife FLIPPED out.....poor guy, it was a loose-loose situation: if he'd said 'honey, i'm not gonna wear my ring in the rapids', she would have freaked out equally...lol
