What does everyone think about supervisors going through your desk when you're not there?

Re: Question
I am very desk-private. I hate ANYONE going through my desk whether I'm there or not. I think it's totally wrong and an invasion of your privacy.
I especially hate it when someone comes over to talk to me and then starts picking at/sifting through things on my desk!

I hate it. Point blank, it is an invasion of privacy. It is MY desk.

Right, but it's probably not illegal or against company policy or anything, right? I mean, if you work some place, your desk and all its contents are property of the organization, right?

It's probably okay by law...I was told my rolodex was property of my company!

Re: Question
I don't have any personal items here at work--ZILCH, literally...This is why I am particularly peed. I put something away yesterday afternoon to work on today. And this morning it was on my desk with a big note. I went in to the woman who wrote the note and she spield about getting it done right away...I tried to explain myself, but it didn't work...That issue aside, I'm concerned about the fact that she went in my drawer at all. I literally have nothing in my drawers (I even have my files on my desktop) so I don't know what that's about...

Re: Question
anything on your desk, computer, phone, etc belongs to your company and they can go through your computer if they see fit. i would find it annoying and rude, but theres not much that i could do about it.

Re: Question
Yeah, I was pretty much under the impression that everything here is theirs, I'm just using it. So, we use each others computers when one uf us isn't here, b/c no one computer here actually fucntionsinall teh apliatins all the time
I have gone into our assistants desk when he was on vacation, b/c I needed something work related, but only if I knew where it was --I wouldn't rumage.
So, if you bring in a gym bag & leave it in your cube, I'd say they couldn't go through that, but the desk drawers really belong to the company.

Re: Question
My supervisor doesnt do that thank god, and i think i would be really annoyed if he did...Do you go through their desk? no....I think not....They should let you have your own privacy then.
People have taken things from me though...I am always missing my scissor or my stapler...I feel like the guy from office space sometimes. Scott
