I have a friend who annulled her marriage within two weeks of the wedding. I didnt attend her wedding, but many of my close friends did, and they want to tell her that she should return all of her wedding presents/bridal shower gifts, etc. but they dont know how to say it to her. I know that some of you girls are really good w/words, so if you could help me out with this i'd really appreciate it! TIA!

Re: Question
I don't think that the friends should say anything. The friend that annulled the marriage should just 'know' that it is the right thing to do. Is she lurking here?

Re: Question
Maybe if they just ask her 'So what are you going to do with the wedding gifts?' just as if thyey're curious and that'll open the door to conversation. Shemight not even have THOUGHT about it, so that would at least put in her head that maybe she needs to do something other than keep them!

Re: Question
no she doesnt lurk here. well this girl annulled the marriage in early December...and she still hasnt done anything w/the presents. i dont think she even knows that youre supposed to return wedding gifts if you annul/divorce within a certain time period.

That's a good idea - but you'd think that if you wanted to end the marriage so soon that either she knew before the wedding that this might not be right for her or did it for the gifts and really can't stand the guy. Either way, she should offer to give back what was given to her.

I think that is great idea-its a good way to approach the subject

Re: Question
thanks for all the advice. i think that's a great way to approach it, but the only problem is, ever since she annulled the marriage, she has stopped talking to everyone.

Re: Question
Even though her marriage was unfortunately annulled and the gifts were meant for both of them, I think if I was a guest, I'd not expect for the gift to be returned even though it might be the right thing for the bride to do. I think that's enough trauma to go through itself. JMO

Re: Question
Maybe since you didn't attend the wedding, it might sound different coming from you? If you said very gently that it would be the right thing to do. If you think it would jeopardize your friendship I wouldn't say anything though.
