Stupid question but has anyone ever seen that reality show Growing up Gotti? I saw it for the first time last night and if I spoke to my mother like that I would not be here right now!

Re: Question..
Hi Welcome!
I've seen a few episodes. They are totlaly rude and disrespectful to their mom. She bought them these $20K becklaces and they were so unhappy with them. They're SPOILED

I was honestly so shocked by it. I live in a neighborhood where John gotti was very well known and very well respected. Victoria was his pride and joy, and she used to live around here, and it was sort of well knwon that you don't mess with her. But I really think the show tells a different story. She seems like a completely different person than I thought she would be. There isn't this stigma about mob connections and all of the bad things that have happenned. She really seems like a good person, who is really trying hard to raise her teenage boys on her own. Of course she has alot more resources than most of us do. But it's really about her and her boys and not so much about mafia connections. When she does talk about her father it's with great reverence and pride. I was really surprised by the show...

Re: Question..
Also, I think I have a different view of the mafia than a lot of people because I lived in the midst of it. To me, john Gotti was a nice man who threw agreat 4th of july party with free rides and ice cream. I was 10 years old wearing a 'Free John' hat. That having been said, it still surprises me that Victoria Gotti is so normal.
her boys are another story. They're so wrapped up in fame and everything now

Re: Question..
I live in Ozone Park. Home to one of John Gotti's clubs, and we'd see the Gottis everywhere, and most meorably for me as a kid he'd throw this insane block party on the 4th of july a few blocks from my house.

I am 100% sure they'd be a LOT different. John Gotti just had this presence. He commanded respect. I didn't know much about the realities of the mafia as a kid, so I looked up to him. I now know about all of the murders and everything, but I seriously still feel a lot of the same way I did as a kid. He just had this air about him. The 'Dapper Don.' He was handsome and he paid for the pony rides, what did I know?
Also, because of him, indirectly, I have no respect for authority. They would put on these amazing fireworks shows, ad then when Giuliani came into office, he'd crack down on them big time, and they'd be running from roof to roof with teh fireworks, and we'd always cheer them when the firewrks came back and we hated the cops and we hated giuliani...

Re: Question..
When he was in prison he had a NICE LONG talk with John and told him to cut the crap with his mother.

Re: Question..
I don't think they would behave like that either if he was alive.. it just shocked me to see them yelling at her like that because I would of never of thought she would ever take that from them.. Also, there is editing on shows like this, so who knows what there life is like in 'reality'...
