Question

Hi ladies:

I'm hoping you guys can help with my question.

I am shopping around for a videographer but what I keep hearing and maybe I am misunderstanding them is that at the end of a possible 10hrs of shooting I get an edited 1 1/2hr video...where is the rest of the material then? Can I make them give it to me? I want to see everything they shoot.

So, my question is, is this the norm or am I interviewing the wrong photogs?

Any advice is helpful.

TIA

same here-most places will give you the unedited version as well.

The 1 1/2 hour - 2 hour tape is the edited version and most companies give you the raw footage too (that is everything that shot that day). Check out Phil & Kate from Bellarino

Re: Question

I replied to your post on Newlyweds, but I figured I'd reply here, too. I'm learning the hard way that 'raw footage' does not mean footage of the entire time your videographer was with you.

I'd love to know what my video guy was doing for 3.5 hours of my 5 hour reception, because if he was filming anything, it's not in my raw footage.

Soooo...to help you learn from my bad experience, my advice is to make sure the duration of your edited and unedited footage is written into your contract and discussed with your videographer before and during your day. And, 'coverage from your CH to the end of your reception' isn't specific enough -- spell it out in hours of uninterrupted footage for each part of your day.

Also, keep in mind that your photo and video vendors are the only ones you'll have to continue to work with after the wedding. Choose wisely.

Wait a minute, my contract says that i get a copy of the 'full unedited footage'. Is that the same as raw footage? Now I'm confused.

Whoa, this is really good to know. Thanks. I'll keep searching. My thing really is I am going to be so blindsided by so many other things on that day that I'm bound to miss a lot. If my videographer is not going to capture and give me every minute, what's the point?

Plus, I have all the time in the world to watch 10 DVDs if that's what it means!

raw footage = unedited footage

The key is to make sure they film everything and they give you all the footage they film.

For example, if they only film 1.5 hours, then you'll only have 1.5 hours of unedited footage.
