Totally up to you. My eparty is no guests unless its a long term relationship. Weddings I said it was ok to bring a guest.

Re: Question

Ugh.......This is the big debate for us.

I feel like etiquitte says that you SHOULD invite everyone with a guest - no matter what - but I don't feel that our budget really allows for it.

I think we'll just see who is married/engaged/in serious relationships and invite those people with a guest, and then weigh in on everyone else and decide whether or not to invite them with a guest (ie - do they know anyone else coming? If not, they'd probably feel alone, so we'll invite them with a guest).

A lot of the girls on here say 'Well, who are we to decide whether or not someone's relationship is serious?' I understand the argument, but at the end of the day, I'm shelling out the cash...

I think that its YOUR day, so you get to determine who you want to invite and who you don't. It really is the only time in your life where you get to be 'the bouncer' -

Re: Question

For me I define serious as- I have met them before. I just went to a wedding for one of my friends with another friend of mine who wasn't invited with a date. Needless to say she got trashed and we had to stay around to make sure she was ok. Not to say that I wouldn't have anyway, but it would have been 'easier' if she would have came with someone. And she agrees with this as well.

I'm inviting almost everyone with a date, I feel bad making someone come alone if they don't want to. However, I also don't want people to find a date they hardly know just so sthey don't have to come alone. I'm not sure how to word that though

Yeah - exactly. I feel the same way...and I have some dirtbag friends who will do just that. It's not a 'meal ticket.' It's my freakin wedding.

How DO we get around that?!

Re: Question

maybe the ones that we know would bring dirtbags we can invite w/out dates. My girls are all over tonight and they already said if I invite them with a date and they don't have anyone to take they'll just come dateless

Re: Question

im inviting everyone who is 18 and over with a date. anyone in highschool has to come with their parents. One of my cousins who is the same age as me, 26 has never had a serious relationship, but i couldnt justify not inviting him without a guest, his 2 sisters, both have boyfriends, so if i invite them with guests, and not him, that would be extremely rude. I honestly dont care if he brings a girl i do not know. Its his choice.

i think its personal choice.

honestly, for us, everyone is mostly in a couple anyway. and those that are single...they are invited with a guest. i only do it, because really, how much does it suuck to be invited to a wedding SINGLE? and yes, i know that some ppl will say 'oh but i will put them at a table with other singles and they can maybe meet someone and get along' but i think the table of 'singles' will know they are at that table, and kind of feel bad about it. like 'gee--we're the single ppl who weren't allowed dates and have t mingle amongst ourselves'

therefore, i'm all about making sure my guests enjoy themselves.

I mean, I want my guests to enjoy themselves too...but I don't think that constitutes inviting everyone with a guest.

It's tough. We've all been on the other side of the coin (is that even a phrase?!) and it stinks when you aren't invited with a guest. At the same time though, I've never been invited to a wedding without a guest when I haven't known anyone else at the wedding. I wouldn't do that at my wedding... I'd totally invite those people with a guest. I don't think its fair to be invited to wedding and not know ANYONE there.

But my college friends, who are single and will be doing shots and irish car bombs at the bar the entire night? They'll keep each other company.

I've been invited to weddings without a guest where I've known a ton of other people there...and I didn't need to have a date there to keep me company.. I had my buds and I had a great time!

I would LOVEEEEEEEEEE to invite everyone with a guest. But I don't think it's possible financially. So I'm going to have to weigh out each situation. It $ucks, but, what are ya gonna do on a limited budget!?

Re: Question

I agree with you bonnie, I think because we're in the same boat. Almost everyone is going to be invited with a date BUT I keep having flashbacks to my roommate from college being invited to a wedding with a date and she didn't have one and she took someone she didn't even know, met him for the first time when he picked her up to go to the wedding and then she never spoke to him again. Why should I pay for someone's dinner that my guest doesn't know and is never going to speak to again? Especially because I am paying for the whole thing myself (well with FH) and am definitely not in the situation (financially) to be paying for people that not only I don't know, but that my guest doesn't know.

I totally agree...we're doing the same exact thing - anyone 18 and over is invited with a guest.

Re: Question

Alot of people just give plus guest to those married, engaged or in a relationship.

I am sending everyone a plus guest. The reason why is because I don't want someone to feel by themselves or anything like that. I have a few girls I am inviting who are single and they know only a few people there and on top of that everyone they do know is in a relationship. They will obviously have to sit with those people at a table. I feel bad to put them at a table with all couples and then them by themselves.

But honestly it is up to you, if you want to let everyone bring a guest then do that, if not then that is your decision and people will have to respect that. Explain the situation to them, but just pay close attention to where you sit the single people to make sure they don't feel uncomfortable.

If they're in the situation where they wouldn't know anyone besides their date (or the rest of the people they know are bringing dates) of course they would be invited with a date. I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable.

Exactly! This is what I'm talking about, actually we're like the last of FH's friends that are getting married I'll have to ask them who they invited with a date and who they invited solo. I'm so smart!
