Hey girls I was wondering if I could get your opinion....
Instead of having everyone sit down for the waiters to take their order, do you think it is stupid to make up menu's that everyone can fill out and leave at there table for the waiters? Has anyone done this or even heard of it? This way the orders would be done after the CH and before we enter or right after.
Fh and I don't want the party to be interrupted by the band by saying Will everyone please sit down? We want the party to continue with interruptions. lol

Re: question??????
Hmmm. I've never heard of THAT specific thing before but it sounds like it could work. If you made up a menu card for each seat with the little boxes that get checked off and have everyone know that once they enter the room, to check off what they want and leave it at their seat for the waiters to pick up.
The only other thing that I have seen done is when you send the menu with the invite andhave peopel RSVP with what they wanna eat, but there are a lot of mixed opinions about this tactic.

To be honest, I've never had the DJ or band tell everyone to sit so the waiters can get the orders done. I always remember the waiters coming around while we were already at the table. They usually go up to you and find you if you're nearby too.

Re: question??????
All of the weddings i have been to take the orders first thing, usually the salad or appetizer is there and everyone is eating that - so it really didn't interrupt the party at all.
One wedding I went to they took the orders during the best man speech, which was annoying because we couldn't hear hte speech since the waitress kept repeating the options (there were no menus).
If you make menus or if your place provides them, they won't interrupt anything to take orders, it should be a smooth process and it really only takes like 2 mins to do a whole table. (even if you have a lot of options, most people will want a specfic thing).

I've never seen it but I think it could work. You'd have to communicate with the RH as far as seat numbers to make sure they are all the correct orders since they are not physically taking the orders. Perhaps on the back of the menu have the table numbers and seat numbers. Definitely talk to the RH. Sounds like a cool idea though.

Re: question??????
I've never seen it done this way and it didn't work like that at either of the two catering halls I worked at. As a former waitress, it's easier to take dinner orders and drink orders at once, in order to become familiar with the faces of the guests of your table. HTH
