Re: question
I dont see anything wrong with a BBQ- My cousin did that and it was a big hit. She even rented a hot dog cart.

Re: question
Not at all! I'm having a small backyard engagement party. Mom, Nana, & FMIL are cooking EVERYTHING! We hired a 'waitress' to set up the food & clean up, & rented tables & chairs. I think you can make it a lot of fun. I was thinking about having it at a place, but we decided that something at home would be a little more intimate and relaxed for everyone to be together. I'm sure whichever you decided will turn out great!

Re: question
Nope not at all! I'm having my Engagement Party BBQ tomorrow! I think it will be a lot of fun. We'll grill a ton of food; already stocked up on drinks. Everyone will be able to mingle; come and go as they wish. Didn't want to do anything formal. We're not getting married till 2011-there's time for plenty of other wedding activities.
I say go for it!

I don't think it's tacky at all... Tell FH you just want to have a fun, relaxing party without all the stuffiness of a restuarant.

Re: question
I had a backyard engagement party with about 150 people. My parents threw it.. they catered and hired a server so they could relax and enjoy themselves.
We had a huge tent in the backyard and everyone had a great time. I think I have a few pictures in my photo album of the set up.
I would go for it especially if someone else it throwing it! We were able to use the money we made to put a huge down payment on Flowerfield and my parents kept the cost inexpensive.
