I've actually asked FMIL recently about our RD because it going to be in my old neighborhood where the church is and she wants to to pick a place since I know all the restaurants/halls in the area. I just ask her what she would like to spend per person (drinks included) and I told her I will look for a place.
I have about 4 places in mind right now to have it and I have already gotten their party menus with prices for her to look at when the time comes.
I would say (if you are having a big RD guest list) to book maybe 4 months in advance?

yeah, we thought of a place and my future inlaws went to try it last week...they liked it and talked about booking it ...... the people took their names and kinda did a 'loose' reservation ...it is 6 months away...they will firm it up in a month!

We booked ours last week, so that would be 2.5 months before.

We booked our place in late January/early February? We wanted to book in November/December, but the church wouldn't schedule a rehearsal until we got closer to the date.

we are going tonight to taste at a resturant. Hopefully everyone will LOVE it & we can book. I'm getting married July 3rd.
