OK, so lets say you and FH have tentative plans to spend time together on the weekend. You both live on opposite sides of the airport.
One of you has a younger sibling who went away for the weeend to Florida. Younger=like 23, 24. The sibling is coming back on Saturday. Younger sibling has parents going to pick them up, but as the older sibling, that person wants to follow parents to the airport in a second car so that after the airport, that person can leave the airport and not go home but go see the significant other at their house.
Significant other says this is weird, and why are you taking 2 cars to the airport? Either go with parents together in one car and make plans to see each other later, or don't go to the airport because if parents are going, why does everyone need to go.
Person with sibling gets mad and says it doesn't make sense to go to the airport, go home to get own car and drive all the way back, but they have to go to the airport to greet sibling.
S. O. still says this is weird.
What do you think?
Just curious.

So you're saying that Older sibling should go to the airport with parents and Significant Other should pick up Older sibling from airport? and let parents and younger sibling go home?

Re: Question
Does the person going to greet their sibling live with them? If so, I would just see the sibling later when I got home from seeing SO. Is it absolutely necessary that you greet them at the airport? Traveling sucks and I know when I get off of a plane I really don't care who is there as long as they are taking me home.

Yes. They live together. This is the crux of my question, if people think it's necessary or stupid

Personally, I don't think it's necessary. The parents are picking up the younger sibling and driving he/she home. I don't see a point of having the older sibling coming along unless for example they haven't seen the younger sibling in like 6 months and was really excited.

Re: Question
depending on the airport, if it's JFK it's really hard to park unless they don't care about paying for the parking.
btw how long is the drive?

Re: Question
IMO I would say if it is absolutely necessary that older sibling see younger sibling at the airport, have SO pick up older sibling at airport. Otherwise, if it were me and i lived at home and knew I would see younger sibling later on, I would just go see SO and see younger sibling later on. But I know some people find it really important to greet people at the airport.

Re: Question
Well, I think it's retarded that FH needs to go to the airport. She's not a baby and it was a week, not a year. She went on vacationf or God's sake.
And it IS JFK and with traffic it takes about an hour between our houses and JFK is closer to me than to him.
SO I'm sitting here wasting my whole day waiting for him to come over after the airport, she's supposed to get in at 4:30, cause he HAS to go there even though his parents are already going. In a seperate car. But if I tell him forget it we'll hang out tomorrow, he'll get upset.
It's JUST SO STUPID.

Re: Question
I'm with you. If she was gone for a a few months, I could understand maybe his NEED to go to the airport. However, if he would just see her at home because they live together, why would there need to be a parade at the airport? No disrespect to FH, but that just sounds silly.
