Question..

Question..

Im new on this board.. mostly im on brides helping brides.. but my fitting sorta jarred me.

My hip/thigh whatever you call it was measured at 42inches. Im shocked!!

I mean I eat relatively well. I can't remember the last time I've had a chocolate anything. My lunch at work is a turkey wrap with carrots as a side dish and sobe tea. Dinner is usually a small steak no fat (it causes me physical pain) rice & corn.

Whats up with this?

I have IBS (no fun) so I can't handle fatty foods. No chicken skin, no bacon, no eggs, no milk, no ice cream, no cheese, no butter, no sausage, no pork, no fat period. If I eat any of the above (even breads sometimes) I am in extreme physical pain. It's horrible.

Then there's my gums thing. Dentist can't understand it but I have sensitive gums.. I can handle sugars well. Like a carmel is OUT of the question so is chocolate. It's like pouring acid on my teeth.

So, I eat as many veggies as I want and red meat or fish. I can have turkey and rye breads.

Still weight loss is eluding me. I can't work out as much as I like for several reasons, time, money and yes pain.. again. I had surgery to my left knee (torn meniscus) that never re-adhered back to the knee and a scar ball that sits on top of the area that's sensitive to the touch.

I don't believe Im over weight or fat.. but I could lose a few pound 10-15. Im 138 (i think) and 5.2ish my measurements were 36/29/42. I feel like a PEAR!

Any ideas?

Re: Question..

Perhaps going to a gym and speaking to a personal trrainer may help. If you explain your situation, they may be able to give you auggestions that would suit your physical demands. Good luck sweetie. I know it's hard. I lost 43 pounds so far. But, I've been stuck the last three months and literallyh ave been eating like a pig. But, I haven't gained any wieght back becuase I exercise. I really think exercise is the way to go.

Re: Question..

Do cardio. I noticed when I moved to NYC ten years ago, I walked everywhere and the inches in my hips and thighs just melted off! Running may be out of the question because of your knee, but can you walk? Maybe speaking with a personal trainer can lead you to the right direction.

Re: Question..

don't forget when they take that hip measurement, its the absolute widest part of your hips... so your ENTIRE hip/thigh area is not 42'... but if it is bothering you i agree with the others- do it the healthy way!

have you tried pilates? i love it, its the only thing i have ever noticed a REAL difference from... especially in the butt/thigh area. From all your other posts I know you are on a budget... so let me recommend 'Pilates for Dummies'... it is like 10 or 11 bucks on amazon.com and it includes a beginner and intermediate workout. it's great!!

good luck!

Re: Question..

GREAT suggestion lori.. ive been dying to try pilates.

I USED to play volleyball for seven years.. whole 'nother world. I just hate these eating issues. I mean people diet because they want to usually for one reason or another. I diet because I have no choice. It's real annoying when other women see me eat and say 'oh she's just trying to look good. Probably pigs out on the weekends.' Lately it's 'She's getting married, what do you expect' I like that one better.

I eat at home mostly where I can control fat content. You girls ever want fat free alternatives.. FM your dish.. I'll suggest it. It's a lifestyle for me.

I cant say im fat FREE but definately low fat.

Thank you all!!!

It's hard for someone who's I quote 'Normal sized' to get people to understand I want to lose 10 lbs. Most are like 'oh your fine.. a little meat on you aint bad'. BAH.

PS: I moved to New York 4 years ago.. at 120lbs. So I GAINED weight with all this walkin! Then again.. I make more money and I can eat here. I used to live off bread butter and koolaid.. hehe

Sorry so long.

Re: Question..

Pilates is a good exercise, but just be careful with your knee. I tore my Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and Meniscus and had to have reconstructive knee surgery. That happened 11 years ago and I am still very active, I do Step 4 times a week and lift weights 2 - 3 times a week. I am just cautioning you because when I tried pilates, my knee was really bothering the next day. I am not sure what triggered it from the pilates class (the class was actually a pilates and core strengthening class), but I just decided not to try it again, because I got scared of the pain in my knee. Just becareful and watch that knee.

My suggestion is walking. Walking doesn't jolt your body, it is the easiest exercise on your body. Start taking 15 minute walks and work your way up.

Good luck!!!

Re: Question..

there are modifications you can do to the pilates excercises if you have sensitive knee, neck or back.. like using a pillow. of course if something hurts you, don't do it!

the beginner workout on the video I suggested is really simple and is a mat workout only, no machines or weird accessories needed... let me know if you decide to try it!

Re: Question..

Veronica,

Have you tried Yoga? I have IBS too, and yoga has helped me in general as far as symtoms, and it would also be a form of exercise.

On the IBS side......has having it changed your perspective on body weight and food? Mine started about 4 years ago, and it has totally changed how I view food, my body and weight loss.

Re: Question..

Jen.. yes IBS has completely and utterly changed my life.

I gained 20 lbs because of it.. before I knew what was what and gave into see a doctor I went about 5 years without treatment.. that sort of thing will change your body's reaction to food. Im told my body now withholds as much fatty tissue it possibly can to burn off since IBS causes me to lose so many minerals and vitamins.

People always think Im dieting when I eat.. or that im picky as I review a menu. I always was a generally healthy eater.. but now its a must. I always tell people I have the BEST DIET deterant EVER.. its called earth shatter, immobilizing.. agonizing... tear pulling pain.. that lasts up to an hour.. that's WITH medication.. (ok..meds take the edge off.. but without, I can't move, drive or even breathe).

Yoga may be a great place to start.
