I went to the OB/GYN this week. I told her that we are not trying now (I am still on the pill) but DH and I would like to start trying on (or around) our 1 year anniversary. I asked her what the deal was with birth control... she said that I didn't need to get off of it or give my body a break but to just stop taking it & start trying. The only advise she gave me was to start taking folic acid...
Is this bad advise? Did you ladies take a birth control pill break?

Re: Question about....
My OB-GYN and I spoke about tbis a few months ago. I told her soon, not quite yet, I would be ready to start TTC. She told me to take my BCP unitl we were ready to start and then go off them and start taking pre-natal vitamins right away!

Re: Question about....
I just read in the Mayo clinic book that taking the pill and becoming pregnant is not harmful...for the few days...
folic acid is so important...I worked with a little boy with spina bifida...caused from lack of folic acid...and he was just adorable, had a great attitude and very able (even though he couldn't use his legs)...but his life expectancy is only into his 20's

Re: Question about....
My doc told me to get off the pill for 2 cycles then start trying and start taking a 1 a day vitamin now. I think all docs are going to be different because I have spoken to so many people and their docs have told them different things.

Re: Question about....
My Dr has given me only enough pill up to June, so my body can get back to normal, I know every woman's body is not the same, some people get off the pill and it takes them a while to conceive and some get off and get preggo right away, I guess getting off a little before is upping your chances of your body getting back to normal quicker.
I keep saying this, our parents never went thru any mess like this, timing? what timing

Re: Question about....
I've started taking the folic acid... I actually take like 6 different vitamins every day.

Re: Question about....
I decided to come off the pill last September, even though we weren't going to start TTC until this summer (yeah, July!). What I though was my body trying to get back into the swing of being off the pill actually turned out to be a little of an eye opener. I got a period once or twice after stopping the pill, but then it disappeared all together. Blood work tests showed my hormone levels are perfect, so I found out I don't ovulate (my periods weren't actually periods, it was anovulatory bleeding).
I am glad I stopped the pill when I did, because if I waited until this summer, I might have been delayed in finding out I did not ovulate. At least know I know what I am facing.
Everybody is different. I was always normal before being on the pill, so I was a little surprised. I took the pill for about 6 years. It works different for every woman. I just wanted to share my experience.
