Question about a basement leak....

Question about a basement leak....

in the house we checked out, they had previously put down boarding on the floor...
yet they pulled half of it up, and they said that there was a leak from the window, and that they would be replacing the window......

my sister had the real estate people tell her the same thing about another house and it ended up being a leak thru the wall....

is there anyway to actually tell?

your building inspector should be able to tell if there are any cracks in the foundation and report the same to you.... most times these are minor and can be repaired... it's just a headache.

You can easily tell by having the homeowner stand outside the window and run a hose on it for a few minutes. While they do that you are in the basement with your agent looking for the source of water entry. Good luck.

well they are claiming its the window, and that they will be replacing that window... im concerned about it being more than the window.... can we bargain that then?

Did you have an inspector look at it? Did he say it was just the window?

Sometimes with leaks it's hard to tell...but usually there is a crack off of the window because it's not as solid in that area. You should consult with your real estate lawyer and see what he says...he may be able to put a clause in the paperwork that states they will pay if the window being replaced does not fix the problem.
